What's the longest time labour/first labour can start?

Started around 3am Sunday morning, quite quick and strong contractions but then up and down all day, suddenly the 3 in 10 but then not so have never made it it. They slowly calmed down properly at night so dp and I got a few hours of sleep (but still contractions at least 1 every 30 mins longest so still not proper rest!) Another day going today - again keeps mixing it up. How long is the longest we will be waiting around?

Triage keep saying we need to wait until very obviously established but I know that whenever I massively lack energy they slow down and I try and get short naps. Won't this just keep happening every day as getting such little.sleep? I'm starting to flag and can't see how long I can keep it up though!

Sadly it really can last days and there is no knowing when you will be in fully established labour.
Just rest as much as you possibly can so that your body is ready to go when it needs to.
I had about 4 days of this with on and off pains/contractions with my first. I honestly didn't realise it was labour at the time as it was so sporadic. I think that helped though as I wasn't dwelling on it and when I did realise (waters breaking) my active labour was less than 2hrs.

@Frizzy1986 thanks feels so long and contractions are bad enough that I am sadly very aware! On day 3 now.

@BiscuitLover2391 How is it going? Hope you have had the baby now.
I am in the same situation at the moment. Contractions started on Sunday night, and have been around 5 min apart every night now. That means no sleep at all unfortunately:( Everyday I just keep hoping that tonight is the night, but still can't get to that 3 in 10 that Triage wants. I am so, so tired :(

BiscuitLover2391 · 06/11/2019 16:04

@Rotorua it's awful isn't it :( was in such a bad way yesterday I went in and got some diamorphine. Honestly it helped so much and doesn't harm the baby as still a way to go. Maybe let them know how you're doing mentally? Has helped me recharge already and better for baby that I rested.p

Also @Rotorua paracetamol helps with the cramping in between contractions so if you get that (or again something a bit stronger from the midwives) then you can rest between them more easily. It's something!

@BiscuitLover2391 Glad to hear you are not suffering so much anymore and managed to get some rest. I so hope things get moving for the both of us Thanks
I managed to get some 1,5 h sleep now and feeling a bit better now. Lower back is still in agony though. Contractions should start getting more regural soon (if it's like the past few days), I will see how tonight goes and then call the Triage.

I have tried paracetamol, it doesn't help much unfortunately. TENS machine is thankfully helping with my backpain a bit at least.
I think I have tried so many things already, and feeling hopeless now.

What did the midwifes say to you? How long they reckon this stage can last? I keep hearing from them 2-3 days and it's going past that now :(
When is your due date?

It’s often fetal malposition that causes the long latent phases. Lots of upright forward positions. Check out spinning babies also.
It’s exhausting but it will happen

Rotorua · 06/11/2019 17:06

@Mummyme87 I had a scan yesterday actually, even with all the contactions and they said baby's head is positioned nicely, so I have no idea why it's taking so long :(
