Constant back pain

Hi,

1st time mum, I am 39+2 days, and apparently baby is back to back.

I've been reading so much online about getting signs and symptoms of early labour/body preparing for labour, but still confused on what I'm feeling.

For about 3 days I've been having constant back ache/pain. The first day wasn't too bad, I was able to change position, bounce on the ball etc and it would help.
But now it's constant doesn't matter what position I'm in it hurts, or if anything relieves the pain slightly for a couple of minutes then it's back.

Today I've been having some building more intense pain in my back, sharp pains in the groin, but nothing majorly in my tummy area.

I've been having stomach tightening for a long time, and these are still there more at the top of my stomach not the bottom.

I've also been having small amounts of clear/yellow discharge/ gel like substance in I go to the toilet. (Sorry, too much information)

Sorry for the long post, just unsure what to make of things and what I do.

Thanks in advance for any help Smile

If you're back to back then you'll feel more pain in your back as that's where the contractions will happen, in the best terms I can describe. You'll still.get them in your stomach but it'll.concentrate in your back. And everyone I've known who's been back to back has had around 3 days of labour.

Phone your midwife, explain what you're feeling. It may just be Braxton Hicks but it could also be the start of labour.

Thank you for reply, that's what I thought more in the back.

I'm apprehensive to call the midwife, as I'm doubting my pain levels. Like is it really that bad? Maybe I'm just being weak and dramatic about the pain, if that makes sense.

Don't want to waste their time

Edit.. not sure if I'm doubting my pain levels I mean.

Any call to the midwife isn’t a waste of time, if you need some advice, are unsure what to do or what you’re experiencing then just give them a call, they’re honestly so friendly and helpful from my experience!

Sounds like you're getting ready for labour. The discharge is likely to be your mucus plug coming away.

Both my labours were all felt in my back...didn't have a single twinge across my tummy!

How long did you have the back pains before going into full blown labour?

Did you have intense building contractions like tummy 'normal' contractions but just in your back? Or just constant back pain not really building

Thank you for replying, Mine have all been pretty nice as well so far :)

would end up having to call the hospital, as I don't think my doctors has an out of hours midwife.

Always feel bad calling doctors, unless my leg is hanging off always been that way! Haha

Had I not phoned the hospital when I did this pregnancy, id have ended up giving birth either at home or in the car because the pain levels weren't that bad. Turns out I was 9cm

Pinkflipflop85 · 02/11/2019 09:25

It started as constant back pain. Nothing too uncomfortable but enough to have me pacing the room. By that point I was 3cm without realising it was labour. Then it ramped up to waves of pain in my lower back and hips.

Thank you for all the messages,

So after posting this message, the pain got worse and I ended up in hospital 12am already 4cm dilated

2 hours later was fully dilated, and hour after that baby Genevieve was born :)

Thank you for the advise
