Managing contractions at home

Koli · 23/10/2019 22:50

contractions started around 10 hours ago. Called the labour clinic 8 hours ago as they were coming every 7-10 minutes for 30-40 seconds. Been told to wait until contractions are 3 minutes apart and lasting 60 seconds.

Any tips on how to manage the pain and how to breath through them? I’ve had a bath which helped a little but our bath doesn’t make it easy to move around.

Contractions are now 5 mins apart and lasting 45 seconds. I’m struggling with the pain and finding it difficult to get into a position that might help me relax during a contraction. I’m struggling to get my breathing relaxed during each one. And my abdominal muscles are painful in between. Feel like going to the hospital soon because of the pain and that we live 45 minutes away

Go to the hospital, things can change very quickly x

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2019 23:06

You're uncomfortable and the pain is getting hard to cope with, and you are quite a way from the hospital so I'd be heading in there if I were you. Best of luck!

nowifi · 23/10/2019 23:08

Yes go go go now! Good luck!

If you feel you need more pain relief then get yourself to hospital.
Every 5 minutes regularly is seriously painful and not far off the ‘3’ minutes they’ve stated and 45 secs is close to a minute so get yourself there!
Good luck and keep us updated if you are able and want to!

Oh you poor thing!
Get yourself to the hospital now, 45 minutes is a long way & it's only going to get more uncomfortable. I'd absolutely recommend a hot water bottle for the car journey & good luck!!

Slow deep breaths in through your nose for 4 then slowly out of your mouth for 8. Do you have a birthing ball to sit on and rotate or can you get on to all fours?

45 minutes away? Get moving! And good luck- hope it is a positive experience for you. Remember to smile... relaxes the muscles in the business area ..

Just an update...
we arrived at the hospital when the contractions were getting about 3 mins apart. Unfortunately only 3cm dilated and could only be given the tens machine for the pain. Anyway long story short, 14 exhausting hours later baby boy was born and now we’re home

Lovely news

I was 6 cm when I was in your position. My midwife (who came to me) was quite surprised. I could easily cope and she still went to an appointment about an hour away, but after that she was quite adamant I was coming with her to her MLU 10 minutes on foot away.

I would get moving.
