I'm trying for a VBAC next year having had an EMCS last year. I was wondering if it is possible to sign the c section paperwork upfront incase it's needed to save time in the moment - what do you think?

You don't need to. It won't save any time as such.
The surgeon still has to go through the risks at the time of the procedure, and it is just a signature on a line.
Hope that puts your mind at rest.

I booked an elective for dc2 (following a traumatic emcs for dc1) but went into labour before hand. As I'd given consent so long ago, they made me go over the consent form again and also give verbal consent after the spinal...the toddler in me considered saying no just to see what happened until I saw the look on the consultant's face.

Based on that, I imagine they'd say no because depending on timing they might need to repeat. With my first section, they seemed to produce it pretty fast although I could barely hold a pen by that point. No harm in asking if that's what you want though.

I too was booked for an elective then went into labour early and was asked to sign consent for an emergency section anyway. I think the logic was that I'd consented to a planned section, rather than the emergency one I was about to get, but I was high as a kite on Entonox so that part might be incorrect. Either way: no, it won't save time.
