Elective c-section vs. vaginal birth

Looking for some experiences/info on elective c-section vs. vaginal birth.

This is my second pregnancy, for my first I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and ended up spending a day at hospital in absolute agony, massively bleeding, because I wasn’t 'opening up enough to pass the pregnancy'.
I’m now pregnant again (2nd trimester) and I’m really really worried that something similar will happen when it’s time to give birth to this baby. I’m going to be giving birth to something so much bigger, if that took a full day, how long will this take? There was so much blood and I was in so much pain, is that just what happens during bad miscarriages or is it a sign of what could happen when I give birth in the future?

I have a friend who for her first baby ended up having to have an emergency cesarean because the birth wasn’t progressing and the baby became distressed. She had an elective CS with her second and said it was 100x better than her first experience.

But my MW said that miscarriage isn’t necessarily a sign of what is to come and talked around some concerns around CS as well, and now I’m not sure.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you!

Dont worry yourself unnecessarily at all and stop listening to horror stories it will just make you feel worse.
Every birth and every pregnancy is different what may work for you may not for others it's the fear of the unknown as long as you're in the hospital your in the best place for any worse case scenario that may happen had both EMC and Elective so cant really speak about VBAC you'll know when time comes what the best thing to do for you and your baby Good Luck wish you all the it's normal to feel anxious and nervous from first time round for you please please think positive xx

I'm sorry for your loss. That sounds really rough for you.

To my limited knowledge, difficulty passing a miscarriage isn't correlated to difficulties delivering a baby in labour. That's not something I've ever heard. So I'm not aware that you'd be at any greater risk of needing an emergency section than the average mum. That said, I wonder if that previous difficult experience would make that possible outcome worse for you? I don't think anyone exactly enjoys having to be sent for am emergency section because natural birth is going a bit pear-shaped, but after a difficult miscarriage that situation may well be even more difficult for you. That may be a good enough reason for you to ask for an elective, even if you're not actually at increased risk of things going wrong.

Only you will have any real sense of your current anxiety around the possibility of an emergency section, and whether that experience is likely to be traumatic for you. But you have the right to request one for any reason. Maybe have a read around about elective sections, and the average likelihood of needing an emergency. But wanting to avoid an emergency on grounds of possible anxiety/trauma is perfectly legitimate!

Best of luck.
