Requesting C Section near due date

Does anyone have any experience doing this?
I am due in a few days and suddenly suffering a very bad mental health spell and it's brought back a lot of worries from my first birth.
I'm booked to see a consultant in the morning to talk about it.
Do you have any idea how soon I might be allowed to have it done?
I'm so worried about going into labour that I'm not able to keep food and fluids down.
I have tried my best and have done a hypnobirthing course etc but I don't feel safe at all.

I don't have any experience with C sections but I requested induction from my consultant at due date because of anxiety over being able to manage my strepB and also my awful PGP pain. She agreed. They can be very understanding.

I'd go in with a list of reasons written down why you want the C section so you don't forget or get flustered. Hopefully of your close to 40 weeks they'd be happy to schedule it around due date.

They understand more I feel these days how important our mental health and not just focus on baby

Abibranning · 03/10/2019 19:02

Due to stress etc I ended up requesting and getting a C-section at 42weeks when I went in to be induced. I arrived at 7 and had my baby in my arms by 1645. It would have been quicker but I had a drink whilst I made my final decision. But you still have time to go and it can just be panic, see what your consultant says and talk to your midwife, but be completely honest and remember that a c is not always an easy option and is major surgery. Hope you get the support you need.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am absolutely not taking this lightly at all. I have tried to avoid it which is why I'm so late in requesting it. I've left it to the point where I don't think I can cope.

Does anyone else have any experience of this?

I requested earlier on but was given one 5 days before it was performed at 40 weeks. They can obviously schedule them in short notice. Good luck OP

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 03/10/2019 22:12

Thank you @doadeer
Did you request on mental health grounds?

OP posts:
doadeer · 03/10/2019 22:16

Slightly.... They might have categorised it as that as it wasn't strictly medic. I had incredibly severe pelvic pain and I couldn't walk, baby was expected to be 10lbs and I didn't feel like I could do it without causing myself trauma.

Basil90 · 03/10/2019 22:20

What happened during your first birth if you don't mind me asking OP?

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 03/10/2019 22:20

@doadeer thank you for sharing.
I'm concerned as a had a very fast first labour which was terrifying and then a retained placenta so I'm fearful of having another similar experience to say the least. I was really affected afterwards, though I'm only really seeing it in hindsight

@Basil90 I had a fast 3 hour labour which had me stuck in a traffic jam pushing in the car.
I then needed to be transferred from the birth centre by ambulance to another hospital to have my placenta removed with spinal block having birthed a baby with no pain relief. They didn't have a bed for me afterwards and I was inadvertently left near a family who had lost their baby.

That sounds horrendous.

I think you have the right to request, be firm as they may try to change your mind but if this is what you really want you are entitled.

Will be thinking of you 🌟

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 03/10/2019 22:36

Thank you @doadeer it would be an absolute dream come true if they could allow it and soon. Every day I am getting closer to my due date I'm feeling worse and I can't remember the last proper food I was able to eat. I'll be back to update tomorrow.
If there are any tips to help if I'm declined would be gratefully received x

Another question if anyone is around... how likely is it that I will be allowed one over the weekend as my due date is on Sunday?

OP posts:
SockQueen · 04/10/2019 01:03

They won't do electives on the weekend I'm afraid. Can you talk to your midwife about your worries? It sounds like last time was very hard for you but might this just be last minute nerves?
