I'm 28 +5 weeks pregnant with 4th baby and really want a home birth but not sure if I should . My nearest hospital is about a half hour drive away and as I have 3 children already & no one to watch them when in labour other than my partner it means if I have a hospital birth I would be doing it alone . My first 2 labours were normal no problems at all but my 3rd I had a pph. My midwife wasn't sure why I had a pph but said it could of been because I had to be induced that time and gave birth quickly ( went from 6 nearly 7cm to giving birth within 15 mins) iv seen a consultant and they said even though i had the pph last time there happy for me to have a home birth aslong as everything continues to be fine for the rest of my pregnancy ,but said because it's my 4th pregnancy I could have another pph but I'm not at high risk of having one Confused . I really want a home birth but not sure whats the best thing to do Confused

I would say go for it, the professionals are happy, do what feels right for you. Good luck OP and many congrats

Of the professionals are happy then do it! It's amazing.

Do what feels right for you. The risk is much higher of PPH with induction. I’m also having a homebirth and have full trust in my two midwives ability to know what to do if there is any issues. Remember they bring a lot of medications with them such as syntocin to help with any bleeding. X

I've just had a home birth with DC 3. Totally recommend. DC was 10lb 3 so very tricky birth and the midwives were amazing.

Thank you everyone for your replies , Its made me feel better about having a home birth . Hopefully everything goes smoothly and if not like everyone has said I'll have midwives with me that will know what to do 🙂

So this is my experience. I had a home birth a few months ago and had a mild (based on ml lost) PPH. The midwives injected me with things to stop the bleeding and inserted a cannula to give me fluids - at this point I felt incredibly faint, couldn't sit up. They called the paramedics who injected me with another drug that seemed to work and I was feeling much better by the time I got to hospital - hospital is about 15 mins away normally but obviously less in ambulance with sirens.
Personally I never felt in danger, although this may simply be because the midwives were very calm and didn't give me any information that may have scared me and if I'd known what was going on maybe I'd have been more panicked. (Or maybe I genuinely had no reason to worry).
If I had carpet it would all have been ruined though...

I'd love to have another home birth, it was so nice when she was born and I was thinking how I was already home and didn't have to go anywhere, had my own things, wasn't in a ward etc. Obviously that changed pretty quickly when I started bleeding. But I'm not sure whether I would have another, despite wanting to. I'd have to discuss the risk of another heavy bleed before making any decision.

I had a minor pph with my first, narrowly avoided a transfusion. I was induced. I had a home birth for my 2nd and it was great. Thoroughly recommend.
