C section recovery

Hi, I had an emergency c section after a very traumatic labour for my ds and am curious about recovery times.

I'm two weeks post section now and the right side of my scar is still really sore and uncomfortable. I'm also desperate to start picking up my 15 month dd and am missing this interaction. I'm also fed up of asking everyone else to pick her up, bed, high chair etc.

To sleep on my side I have to use my maternity cushion. I can't see that I'll be driving any time soon. It's getting me down. I feel a bit like a prisoner.

Any tips/advice/stories welcome! Thanks.

So sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I have had two c-sections. The first was an emergency and recovery took about four weeks before I started to feel more like me. I moved around as much as I could and I think that really helped. With my second (elective though) it was about two weeks! Just take it easy, don't over exert but do be mobile as much as you can bare. With my second, I had an 18 month old and held him into third week. Congratulations and hope you have a speedy recovery.

I had an EMCS 4 months ago, this is what I was told:
Absolutely no housework and lifting anything but the baby for 6 weeks (primary healing)
Very light housework and no lifting until 12 weeks (secondary healing)
After the 12 weeks light exercise is fine, e.g. low resistance cardio.
Lifting stuff at the 6mo mark.
No movements that cause stomach muscles to contract (crunches) for 12mo.

I intend to follow it to the letter as I want the best possible recovery.

I’m also still sore on the right - it’s where the surgeons tie all up, and also baby favoured that side in the womb.

Good luck and don’t over exert yourself - cuddle your older DC sideways without lifting for now.

Thank you so much! Both answers are so helpful. I'm trying to be as calmly active as possible. Interesting about the exercise as I'm desperate to get moving or stretching. Will hold off picking up my daughter for a few more weeks. Makes me so sad though!

Hope you were given rehab exercises too? The most effective ones are Kegels and stomach vacuums which you can do now, I do mine while breastfeeding.

Btw if you think you will have more pregnancies in the future, take recovery very seriously - you will need that womb in top shape again Smile

Definitely no more children for me! Two is more than enough!

Ima fill having a lot of pain inside, especially on the right that pulls through to my right bum cheek. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks
