Hiya, finally think this might be real labour (contractions started 4am monday but were irregular and crap until last night)

Had a bit of a bloody show at midnight and have been awake but trying to sleep ever since. Contractions are kinda regular, averaging at about 6 or 7 mins, lasting about 45 seconds to a minute. The pain isn't horrendous yet I'm breathing through it.

When do you think I should call the hospital to give them a heads up?

is anyone with you

bananabump · 08/08/2007 07:14

5 mins away, yes this is my first. I just woke my dp up and gave the hospital a quick ring to check, they said they want them to be every 3-4 min lasting a min and "really making your toes curl"

I just had one of those. ow!!!

When you can't post on here anymore then you really should be on your way to the hospital

Are you far away from the labour ward?

FunkyGlassSlipper · 08/08/2007 07:19

sorry x-post.

This is useful. Takes the stress away out of timing contractions

Good Luck, BB

Thanks for the link FGS, I'm still doing fine between contractions so it's probably going to get a zillion times worse isn't it! heehee! aargh...

Not terribly far from labour ward, no. Wondering whether to have a shower and get dressed or loll about for a couple of hours

how exciting! does sound like the real thing. I spent a lot of time in the shower - the warm water really helped.

arfishy · 08/08/2007 07:48

How exciting!! Good luck, sounds like you're on your way.

bananabump · 08/08/2007 07:55

Think I will hop in the shower, back in a bit x

How's it going - I've still not progressed! - Stalled AGAIN!!

XcupcakemummyX · 08/08/2007 09:29

good luck

FunkyGlassSlipper · 08/08/2007 09:34

I remember writing down all the contraction timings for DD1. Still have the paper someowhere too

The contractionmaster thing was great with DD2. I took all the pain out on the computer chair as I circled and gritted teeth

Hope this is it bananabump.

I fell asleep! was just woken up by own snores, I don't how how I fell asleep when I was so buzzing. I really hope I haven't ruined it because they were getting nice and regular. Should I sleep if I feel like sleeping? I'm worried I've fecked it up now!

Trina I'm sorry to hear you're not doing as well as you'd hoped, are you perhaps putting too much pressure on yourself? I'm beginning to realise just how dependent on your emotions and mind this is (a bit like being able to have an orgasm, if you feel pressured or worried you just can't, you know?)

yes, you should sleep if you feel like sleeping If it's real labour, nothing will stop it.

bananabump · 08/08/2007 10:42

Haven't had another contraction since I woke up though, approx 25 mins ago.

hmmm....my choices:

  1. Go to bed, sleep as long as I can/need to then get up and hope they start again

  2. Walk around/get stuff done until they're regular again and hope I'm not desperately tired later?

sleep, sleep, sleep - you can't stop labour once it's really going and then there will be no resting. I totally wore myself out in my excitement over being in labour first time round - little did I realise just how long it was going to take.

good luck ....

Pidge · 08/08/2007 10:46

oh and I had very similar experience with regular strong contractions every 5 minutes and then they would go away for a couple of hours ... very frustrating ... believe me, when things really kick off you'll know about it!

Trinaj · 08/08/2007 10:48

I agree rest if you can.
I spent all day yesterday walking around in circles - did no good.
As much as I hate this and agree that it feels like sleeping may have caused it to stop, I know everyone's right that once it's real nothing can stop it!

bananabump · 08/08/2007 10:51

Thanks, I might go to bed then, I feel suddenly exhausted. back later x

"they said they want them to be every 3-4 min lasting a min and "

mine never did get to that stage so be warned. I had irregular (right up until I was ready to push!) contractions - the longest were about 30 seconds long...........but they certainly made my toes curl .

So for me contraction time was a waste of time LOL - hope things get going soon for you,
