Childcare during labour

I’m due my third baby this week and I’m starting to panic about childcare for my dc 1 & 2 and school run issues after the birth. I haven’t got many relatives to help as they live quite far and don’t drive, I have some friends who can help if I absolutely need it, but I’m relying on dc 1 and 2 dad to take care of them (he lets them down often so I’m not holding my breath and baby has a different dad who isn’t in the picture).

I’m so nervous about needing to go to hospital during the night for example or not being able to collect dc from school as I’m in labour and needing to let someone know to collect them or their dad decides not to.

I have spoken to my midwife about my concerns but I’m hoping some one here may have been in the same position and how it went for you? How long until you were back to doing the school run too (assuming you had a natural birth with no complications)? My dc start school on Wednesday so it’s extremely likely it will happen on a school day. I know I won’t feel up to driving immediately but I won’t have anyone to take my dc to school.

I have been refused a home birth due to complications with dc2 and I’d like a water birth which my house isn’t big enough for anyway. Any tips or reassurance will be much appreciated.

Not been in the same situation but based on what you've written I'd suggest speaking to a couple of the friends you say would help out if needed, just go over a few things see what they might be able to help with and what you might expect, so that if DC dad isn't helping they are prepped and one of them can step in. I had a good friend as back up and it was certainly reassuring to have had that chat. Also if DC unavoidably miss a couple of days of school it's not the end of the world. Could you take public transport though?

Contact local childminders who do school runs to your school.
