Post section stomach - who else managed to lose the overhang post section?

I have read so many people posting that they never lost the flabby tummy and that the overhang is permanent after a section. I cannot be the only person whio managed to lose it surely? It took my a little over a year but I did it...
Anyone else get a normal stomach afterwards? I'm not talking about a washboard, just a normal non-squidgy stomach!

I haven't lost mine but I am not back to the weight I was before having ds. We shall have to wait and see.

anchovies · 08/08/2007 16:58

Think it partly depends on skin, mine is still terrible although not really fat mostly skin. Put it this way I have no concerns about the scar as it would take quite a hunt to actually find it. Yuck.

Can the overhang be seen in normal clothing or is it only when you were a bikini? Even then, does it not sit below the knicker line?

Gangle · 18/08/2007 19:41

sorry "wear" a bikiki!

Gangle · 18/08/2007 19:41

BIKINI! Can't type!

dressedupnowheretogo · 18/08/2007 19:53

me me i never had one and im qite large by mumsnet standards

Nymphadora · 18/08/2007 20:07

First one went soonish (elective) second one won't go even though I have lost loads of weight and exercise (sort of!) its just extra skin , can have it took off but still want more kids so won't bother yet.

My stomach is horrid after section. Lost a lot of weight after delivery, much lighter than when dd was conceived.

Had personal trainer give me stomach exercises. Stomach got harder, but didn't change shape.

Really really pissed off with it...used to have a smallish waist, and now struggle to find clothes to fit, as waistline now much larger proportionately than rest of body...

mummydoit · 18/08/2007 22:08

I had a section, then two pregnancies in rapid succession (14 months between my two) plus I was HUGE with both pregnancies (lots of fluid). My weight is, pound for pound, the same as it was before I had kids but my stomach is at least four inches bigger than it used to be. My shape has completely changed. I've done loads of abdominal exercises, dieted, etc but nothing shifts it. RedFraggle, if you have a foolproof method PLEASE SHARE!!!

fizzbuzz · 19/08/2007 12:12

With me too, am sick of not being able to fasten trousers..

NKF · 19/08/2007 12:14

I hear Pilates helps but I'd love to hear more suggestions.

Mummydoit - if I had a foolproof mehtod I'd be rich by now!!
I lost my first one through running and general exercise. Second overhang is a work in progress as only had baby 11 weeks ago. it is much better already though as I have lost all but half a stone of the baby weight. Would like to lose a bit more too but will broach that once I've hit pre-pregnancy weight
It sounds like most people on here who lost it did lots of walking/running or pilates.

I never had an overhang after my c/s and neither did my friend who had c/s as well.

The overhang is not muscle it's fat so the only way to get rid of it is to slim down.

Rochwen · 20/08/2007 21:16

have to add, the best way to get rid of it is a combination of loosing weight, cardio and toning excercises.

Luxmum · 21/08/2007 11:17

No no no! The only fail safe way of getting rid of the overhang is to get pregnant again!! My tummy is now lovely and taut and the overhang dissapeared very quickly..!

nipplesonfire · 21/08/2007 16:42

My surgeon sewed my muscles together during the surgery, you could have served jelly on my stomach a week later and not seen a wobble!

orangehead · 25/08/2007 02:46

5 yrs post section done all the tummy exercises all the cardio lost 2 dress sizes but still huge ugly over hang. i spoke to my gyn consultant about it and he said no amount of exercize will get rid of it the only thing that will work is a tummy tuck. however im still persisting with the exercize just in case. oh he also told me it is because they stitched me up wrong(he didnt do it)

jabberwocky · 25/08/2007 03:09

I thought at first you meant the way the scar tucks in a bit. Talked informally to a surgeon about it and he said micro-liposuction is the only way to fix that.

Otherwise, I think the varying degrees of overhang have more than a little to do with how careful the surgeon sews your muscles back together. After my first section, the nurse looked at me and smiled and said "I told him you were a belly dancer and so he was very careful when putting your muscles back together" Well, I really had mixed feelings about that comment. I mean, yeah, I'm very happy about it, but shouldn't he always be careful????
