I've heard some story's of late of DH/P being sent home when he in fact wants to stay (and DW/P also wants him to stay) during these times, I just wanted to know what are our rights regarding this! Thanks!

Agree Stripy. Have also been thinking about the circs when a child goes in for an op. They are YOUR child, you have loved them and nurtured them and would do anything for them. You are still not allowed to see the actual intubation, nor are you allowed to stay and watch the operation. I know there's a difference here in that this is about someone's child being born, rather than be operated on. But a crash c-section is also about seeing one's dp being operated on and is a life-saving procedure rather than a more routine em c-s.

Haven't experienced a c-section myself and believe they're very rare, but a friend had 2 crash sections. Her children were both fine, and I don't believe that her husband (who I also know) suffered from not having seen them being born. They were brought out to him almost instantly.

Anyway - in terms of an uncomplicated delivery, I did find it rather sad that dh had to go home at about 10pm after dd was born at midday. But then again, he got some sleep, tidied, went to the supermarket and basically prepared for us coming home. With ds, I had him at 9pm and was home by 11pm (after a fair amount of begging on my part).

my dp didn't stay overnight afterwards - i wouldn't expect that really unless we were in danger, but some hospitals have no problem with dad being at c section so it can't be a risk.

I was induced last year with ds and went in at 8am on the friday. Dp was with me all day as i started labour at about 1pm.

Ended up having emergency cs at 1.30 am sat and dp was allowed with me then. He stayed for a couple of hours while i was in recovery then he went home to get some sleep and came back a few hours later.
On the ward parteners were allowed from 8am-12pm then they were sent away so you could rest until 2pm then were allowed back until 8.30pm, although they were fairly relaxed about what time they left within reason.

I started a thread on this last year for DS2's birth. I was overseas for DS1's birth and DHs were encouraged to room in with their partners until hometime for the whole family. There were no issues (or history) regarding security.

I was ready to go in all guns blazing, but as it turns out DS1 was really ill so DH had to come in for the birth (elec CS) then run home again to DS.

TBH, it was quite nice being able to have a bit of piece and quiet for 48 hours

If you're being induced and they send the Father home at night, do they call him back in BEFORE they break your waters?

The reason I ask this is because when I was induced with DS2, I gave birth fairly quickly after my waters were broken!

They should call your DH in before breaking your waters. Waters should only be broken on the labour ward so there is no reason he can't be there no matter what time of night.

My dh was with me when the mw started off the induction, and stayed with me until 9pm (visiting). Came back following morning after staying with me until 1pm due to the false labour.

For CS, he came in with me for epidural, but when doctor wanted me under general for quickness, dh was walked out. (I never had the CS though as dd was born on the theatre table!).

However, dh stated that being walked out was the worst feeling, but, now (22months later), dh feels that it was the best option simply because he didn't know what being under GA would make me look like iyswim
