I posted yesterday about a crap midwife appointment where my baby seemed to have 'unengaged' itself. Well my day got a whole lot worse after that...

I had a trace of glucose in my urine yesterday for the 2nd week running. This has happened before but I had the GT test and it came back clear.

I saw one of the midwives last night when I was at the hospital for a parentcraft class, and she asked if she could have a word with me. She took me to one side and explained that she wasn't happy about me having a homebirth any more, as the risk of blood sugar problems for the baby/shoulder dystocia was too high (my fundal height is 42cm, up 2cm from last week!)

I just sort of nodded and tried not to cry, thinking how shit it is that I've got to FULL TERM and all of a sudden my homebirth plans are scuppered. I don't know what to do.

I'm too scared to have my baby at home if the midwives aren't supportive, but at the same time I am in bits at the thought of having to go to the hopsital and all the associated risks of intervention etc. that it brings.

I spent last night crying and feeling so angry with myself - I really, really don't need this at 40+2, as I am sure being in such a bad place emotionaly is going to delay things even further.

I want to write myself a hospital birth plan but I don't know where to start. I'm completely at a loss here. Help!

I had the glucose test three times in my last preg always negative, and nobody ever said i was anything other than low risk, altho i wasnt planning a home birth anyway.

having said that i went down the birthing unit led by midwives. i also had terrible migraines one which i was admitted to hospital for and lost the ability to talk and write for about 24 hours and yet I was still low risk.

how far away from the hospital are you? you could always transfer if there are problems.

i can understand your dissapointed but as long as you and baby are safe thats all that counts i'm so glad i was made to go into hospital baby ruptured an artery on me on way out and if i was home probably wouldn't be here now i know it would be much better but if mw has genuine concern then is it not best to be safe than sorry

Update - I had my baby on Tuesday morning in hospital. I was too nervous to stay at home in the end, as labour started before I had a chance to talk it over with the consultant/midwives!

Despite an active labour, my baby had shoulder dystocia. I pushed for two hours before birthing his head, but in the end he was delivered with me on my back, knees to shoulders, with a variety of midwives and paediatricians trying to get him out!

He is OK though - needed a bit of help to breathe but doing fine. He weighed 9lbs 6oz, and I only had a little tear - needed 3 stitches but managed to avoid episiotomy etc etc.

I think I am more shocked than he is!

WEll done you - I was about to post and then realised you had had your LO - after all you were in the best place, and although hosp is the last place us "homebirth" mums want to be.. sometimes it is best..... I'm 40+5 being threatened with induction....... my worst nightmare.

do post on the Aug07 post natal thread.....

And Annie75... where are you -noticed you on this thread - she went in to hosp last week for obs as her waters had gone and LO was firmly breech.....no-one has heard from her since...

Wow, can't believe you did end up with a shoulder dystocia! I guess it was a good thing you were in hospital. Sounds like it wasn't too bad and glad he is fine, well done and congratulations.
