Low Lying Placenta C-Section Date

Just wanted to ask if you’ve had a c-section for a low lying placenta what week you had it scheduled for?

Am currently scheduled for a csection at 39 weeks (although I think scan has incorrectly dated me and I’ll actually be 38 weeks, but that’s another story). Went for a follow up scan last week (31 weeks) and was told placenta was still low lying at 2.5mm. The consultant started telling me I needed to take steroids and they would deliver at 36 weeks. I refused and pointed out that the NICE guidelines state that I should have another follow up scan at 36 weeks. So now that’s what is happening and I have another meeting after that to finalise csection date after the scan.

Obviously I realise that the most important thing is the health of both myself and baby, but I also have concerns that they’ve measured me as being a week ahead than I am (I know my dates) and I don’t want a section earlier than necessary. The consultant started terrifying me talking about what could go wrong and made me feel awful for asking for another scan to check instead of booking in straight away.

This is my third c-section. I’ve had a low lying placenta before and it moved out the way in week 38. Any guidance/advice please?

I haven't got to this stage yet but I was found to have low-lying placenta at my 20wk scan, and it's policy in my trust not to do any follow-up scan until 36 weeks. So it sounds odd if your consultant is wanting to book you in for a c-section that early! 39 weeks sounds more like what I would be expecting.
Obviously if you get any bleeding or anything you'll know to get straight to hospital so I'm not sure why they'd advise delivery so early when surely it's in baby's best interests to stay put as long as possible.
Hopefully others with more experience will be along in a minute to shed some light!

I had low lying placenta with my son spotted on my 20wk scan. Policy at my hospital was not to even rescan you until 36wks. I was around 36+5 or something when I even had my scan. thankfully it had moved anyway!

38+1 with DD - the policy was between 38-39 weeks if asymptomatic. Scanned at 20, 34 and 36 weeks and was 2.3mm at 36 weeks. Choice was a Thursday (38+1) or Tuesday (38+6) and the Thursday worked better.

One of my placentas (expecting twins) was discovered at 20 weeks to be completely covering the cervical os and I was scheduled for a TV scan to confirm and I had that scan at 24 weeks. I am now 29+6 and had the repeat scan yesterday a couple of weeks early (because I’m travelling out of area for a wedding and my community midwife recommended I get confirmation of placental position before I go in case I end up in hospital where we’re going) and was told it was now less than 2mm away from the os and so still considered placenta praevia and that I should be rescanned at 36 weeks if I get that far (because it’s a twin pregnancy i may not get to that point). I have also been told I will be given steroids possibly as early as 32-34 weeks which will be confirmed by the consultant at my next appointment in 2 weeks time.
