Will be waiting by the phone on Friday for a call.... not sure how I feel trying to remain as calm as possible!!!

Oooh how exciting ! How far along are you and why are you being induced if you don't mind me asking ! I was in induced at 39+6 for RFM with my first and she arrived on her due date Grin also if I was you I'd ring them about 11am if you've heard nothing and ask them what's going on, they always said they would call me at my hospital and they never did, the only way I got anywhere was ringing them x

Hermones1 · 10/07/2019 15:51

@greyby25 oh wow really, that is a good point I will make sure I call them if I don't hear anything.

I'm 40 years old, also found out last week I have gestational diabetes and ended up in hospital a few days ago with swollen legs and ankles and a blood pressure of 150/100 so they gave me an induction date then and there..... and now Friday is almost here!!

I will be 38 weeks this Friday.

How long did your induction take from start to finish I.e. birth?

OP posts:
greyby25 · 10/07/2019 16:15

Yes definitely give them a ring if you've not heard anything, I only know this because I was waiting for a few days to go in for my induction and they kept telling me people would ring back etc and no one did, so I eventually just rang them every morning until they told me there was a bed, I'd been having ongoing RFM for three weeks Hmm

And oh that's rubbish, well at least they found it and you're very close to meeting your little one !!

My whole induction was very very positive. Pessary at 2pm, period pains at 4pm. Laboured the night and my daughter was born 24 hours after my period pains started, we went home four hours later ! X

Hermones1 · 10/07/2019 16:52

@greyby25 oh that sounds beautiful I need that ... I'm worried it's gonna take days!!!

I just wanna bring her home now!!

Any advice on pain relief? X

OP posts:
greyby25 · 10/07/2019 17:03

Well just think this time next week she will be here !

Yes, I think myself lucky compared to what some women experience !

Pain relief, I have quite a high pain tolerance so I only had paracetamol and codeine, then one shot of diamorphine and an anti sickness injection as I was throwing up with every contraction Blush. I found baths were very very helpful, so relaxing and just nice to sit there in the water with birth partner pouring it over your back. Take a birth ball with you to rock on especially in those early stages it's a good idea to help get things going, go for walks and breathe through as much as you can. Don't be scared to be pushy with nurses if you feel like you aren't being listened to, sometimes they need telling because only
You know how your body is feeling ! X

Hermones1 · 10/07/2019 17:21

@greyby25 thanks so much, great advice thanks I have a few breathing techniques and I know how important it is to use them.

Whoop so close now :) xx

OP posts:
greyby25 · 10/07/2019 19:15

I think as well it's very important to keep an open mind, the breathing techniques may not work for you, the only time they came in handy for me was when me and OH were pacing the hospital corridors during the night Grin I didn't even think about them when I was pushing ! Is this your first pregnancy ? X

Hermones1 · 10/07/2019 20:56

Yes first pregnancy.
Been through IVF so it's been a journey. Smile

OP posts:
MustardScreams · 10/07/2019 21:02

Good luck op!! I learnt breathing techniques, when in active labour they went straight out the window and I alternatively mooed/swore my way through the contractions Grin They were great in early labour though!

If it gets rough take all the pain relief. The best thing I ever did was have an epidural. Went from absolutely losing my mind to laying in bed chatting away happily in 30 mins. No intervention and just a slight tear. But hopefully yours isn’t too painful and you sail through. Exciting!

imtakingabath · 10/07/2019 21:06

If you have to have the drip, ask for an epidural! It’s definitely necessary IMHO. And a lot of anaesthetists will reduce the epidural when it’s time to push so that you can feel what you’re doing still, which helps prevent tearing and interventions.

Sweetooth92 · 10/07/2019 21:47

Good luck and try not to worry.
I ended up having the drip to speed up things with my DS. I didn’t find it overly painful and managed with just gas & air.
Take what you need and take it one step at a time, inductions can be fairly speedy or slow-I insisted on mine being started as they weren’t happy with how quick things were so wanted to wait to the next morning to start it, I didn’t want to stay in after birth (which happened anyway) so said rather than waiting another 12 hours to start the process I’d rather crack on & he arrived around 4-5 hours later. I found them getting the drip in more traumatic than the actual process-though do remember threatening to break the midwives legs if she turned it up again 😂-but I was a lot further on than they realised as it accelerated quickly.

Hermones1 · 11/07/2019 09:06

Thanks all.
Really good advice I'm so glad I posted.

I have some serious adrenaline today! Roll on tomorrow eeeeek x

Zackisback878 · 11/07/2019 09:49

@Hermones1 best of luck Smile I was induced last week and although needed three pessarys it generally went quickly afterwards, down to labour ward at 7pm and he was born at 00:09

I would say the contractions were much more intense that my first labour so I did end up with an epidural this time, but the contractions did their job so no need for forceps.

You'll be meeting your wee one very soonSmile

greyby25 · 11/07/2019 19:46

Good luck for tomorrow OP ! Let us know how you get on ! Grin

Hermones1 · 11/07/2019 22:11

@greyby25 thank you.
Will keep you updated :) x

Thanks for the support.

any news OP? are you settled in a ward ? hope all is going well ! X

Hermones1 · 13/07/2019 12:49

@greyby25 all settled had the pessary at 11:00 yesterday morning, had cramps and tightening through the night so they gave me codeine and paracetamol.

The pessary was painful was glad for it to be removed this morning. Now waiting 6 hours to see if the tightening increases then depending could be waters broken or another pessary!!!

OP posts:
greyby25 · 13/07/2019 21:07

Hope you're progressing well and baby is on her way ! I hated the pessary to be honest. Hopefully they'll be able to break your waters and really kick start things if the tightenings don't get worse ! X

Hermones1 · 14/07/2019 18:17

@greyby25 had 3 pessarys and was only at 1cm, they broke my waters an hour or so ago and now I'm on the drip!!!

OP posts:
greyby25 · 15/07/2019 11:03

Ooh exciting !! Hope you're doing okay and baby is here if not nearly here ! X

Hermones1 · 18/07/2019 20:07

@greyby25 sorry for the delayed update! Oh my we had an actual nightmare.

They broke my waters, put me on a drip for 7 hours and I still had not dilated more than 1cm so I ended up having a c-section which I told would be done within an hour but I didn't go in until 7 hours later.

Anyway our girl was born at 11:36am on Monday morning. They gave me morphine during the op for after recovery which made me violently ill for 8 hours.

I was losing a lot of blood too after everything was just an awful experience to be honest I cannot say I would go through it all again!! GrinGrinGrin

OP posts:
greyby25 · 18/07/2019 20:46

Oh god ! At least you're little girl is here and well ? That sounds so awful, I can't imagine that was fun at all. Congratulations thought on your little one ! And I hope you're recovering well. A little tip if you're feeling particularly bruised or sore, arnica tablets (you can get them from boots or amazon) work a treat and really helped me after my first daughter. Good luck with your baby and recovery ! Xx

Hermones1 · 18/07/2019 22:02

@greyby25 I just looked the tablets up and they contain lactose which I'm allergic too :'(

OP posts:
greyby25 · 18/07/2019 22:36

Aw no way ! I didn't know they had lactose in, I wonder why they put that then Hmm, it really helped me after my daughter with my stitches but oh well ! Congratulations again ! Xx

jackstini · 18/07/2019 23:00

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

My induction went very similarly to yours, never got past 2cm dilated after pessaries and drip so emcs 2 days later.

Recovered fine and dd now 13. It is traumatic at the time but I got through it pretty quick as so happy to have dd. Did it again too and ds is 10 Grin

Enjoy these precious moments Smile
