HI, My MW is addement that because I am breastfeeding my DS- 9.5 months on demand then I will only carry my LO till about 37-38 weeks. I have been looking for some research evidence on this but its pretty non existant so wondered if anyone had any experience in this.
Thanks

The oxytocin could in thoery cause uterine contractions. However, as I'm sure you've read up on, this is only an issue toward the end of the second trimester onwards. I was advised to stop before an amnio with DS2 at 16weeks. The OB said I would also have been advised to stop if I had a history of miscarriages.

If your MW is 'adament', then ask her for evidence at your next visit. Most MWs and HVs fall at this hurdle since they are experts on heresay, but useless when it comes to assessing evidence.

I have had 3 (first-trimester) mcs and have bf my 2.2yo throughout my current pg (now 33 weeks). I have been bf on demand, anything between 1 and several times a day. At 17 and 21 weeks I had big bleeds due to a now resolved placenta praevia, and was advised to stop, but didn't and things were fine.

Oh, and 37-38 weeks is technically term - it's not actually 'early' labour. I had ds at 38 weeks

I breastfed throughout three pregnancies and it was all fine. My babies all arrived about five days before due date.

DD born at 41 weeks. DS bf throughout the pregnancy. Nobody advised me to stop, although there were some raised eyebrows.

I believe that you are more at risk of an early delivery only IF you are already at risk of an early delivery! Are you?

Imho 9.5 months is too early to wean if you are both happy to feed, keep going as long as YOU are happy to, it's no-one elses business!
