Hiya. I work at Arrowe Park Hospital. Not Maternity but Gynae. Same building and I know the doctors. Who is your consultant and what is the reason for the elective C Section?

typhoonsmum · 26/07/2007 11:48

Just read your other thread.

My sister had an undiagnosed breech delivery resulting in an emergency C section with her first baby. Naturally she was scared of the same thing happening again. She was under two different consultants thru the preg (as one left) Both agreed to do the elective C section.

All the doctors in APH are really nice. If you explain to them your horrendous first birth I can't see them refusing.

Who is your doctor tho!

Mr Ellard is very approachable. Just explain what happened last time. It should all be in your notes anyway but tell him you don't want to go thru that again and how it affected your recovery.
He'll explain what everyone on the other thread told you about the recovery and risks of major surgery whilst having to look after a newborn but many people do it. He may even try to convince you to have a vaginal birth but if you want a c section insist on it.

My sister got hers without to much problem. Let me know how you get on. Am on Mat Leave at the moment or I'd speak to him at work and put feelers out for you.

hayley2u · 26/07/2007 12:31

typhoon ya so nice thanks ha. you enjoy your mat leave chick. so he isnt a big scary ogre i am expecting.i am gong for growthing scan anyway on wed and seeing him so ill bring up then. will i need to use mega tears ha

He looks a bit ogre like but he is nice. Tall ish and round with not much hair. He specialises in Fertility so I suppose he is used to emotional women but insist that a vaginal birth would be to traumatic for you.

hayley2u · 26/07/2007 12:35

ha i cant wait to see him now youv said that.i hope he agrees to me having one i realy do.

I had a planned section at Arrowe 7 weeks ago. My consultant was Mr Alum (Alun?) and he was very nice.
I requested a section purely on the grounds that I had had a nightmare experience with my first child ending in an emergency section and I didn't think I could cope mentally with doing it naturally. It was granted with no issues. I think the consultant would obviously have preferred me to have a VBAc and offered assistance with counselling etc and told me all about the stats for complications with section (which they have to do), but when I insisted and became really distressed he agreed to the section. It went very well and I was very happy with the op and with the aftercare. Good luck!

thanks red fraggle. i just hopethey do listen to me. i'm bit rubbish when being assertive with doctors find them scary h

had dd2 at APH March 06 - not a c-section but ante and post natal care was fine (i was in for 5 weeks before she was born). dd2 spent 10 weeks in SCBU and the care there was second to none. Food was rank though! My consultant was Mrs Green (think she specialised in foetal medicine), altho' baby delivered by Mrs Williams - no complaints about any of them. Hope it all goes the way you want.

typhoonsmum · 26/07/2007 21:36

Mr Alam deliverd my sisters baby by elective c section and let me watch (Staff Perks- It was cool)

Mrs Green is the consultant I am under now and I think she is the best. Miss Williams is also lovely.

As I said not one of them is horrible. We have a nice bunch of staff.

Have heard bad things about APH but not experienced any of them myself as staff or patient.

RedFraggle · 27/07/2007 10:42

I thought the food was quite nice...

babyjamas · 27/07/2007 11:52

believe me if you had to eat that food for 5 weeks you would think it was rank too!

Mrs Green was great - made lovely comments about my cervix (she scanned it weekly to check that it wasn't shortening)- it is one of my prouder moments to be told that i had a fantastic cervix!

hayley2u · 27/07/2007 21:19

thanks everyone. really getting my bottle up now to ask mr ellard on wednesday
