hmm, suspect i am posting to myself here as it's 2.39am and everyone will be asleep! still, it's something to do to keep my mind off the pain!
i'm really excited as finally at 41+1 i think things are starting to happen!! this is my first baby and I can't wait to meet the LO!
things started off with bad period type pains around 10pm this evening but I didn't get too excited about that as it happened a couple of days ago and came to nothing.
that went on for a bit and at one point, when my bladder was full (sorry, TMI alert!)I could barely walk to the toilet, but as soon as i'd been the pain eased off.
went to bed hoping it could really be the start of things and got about an hour and a half sleep before I started getting contractions.
Couldn't get back to sleep so am now on mumsnet and trying to time my contractions!
DH is gently snoring next door and I don't think i should wake him up as he will panic and there's not much he can do anyway! no point in us both being knackered and am coping okay on my own for now. the contractions are
irregular and not very long - very between about 28 seconds and 50 seconds; for the last half hour they've been between 6 mins and 3.5mins apart.
REALLY hope this isn't a false alarm!
anyone awake?

miniegg - if you are at all unsure call the hospital, they will assess you over the phone and tell you if you need to be there.

Good luck!

miniegg · 26/07/2007 10:54

thanks everyone - calling the hospital right now!
in between the awful contractions i'm so happy and excited that it's finally happening!

hospital says to come in soon-ish and i'm happy with that as I am scared the taxi journey will be horrendous if I leave it too late and I can't walk too well during contractions.
the driver is probably going to freak out as it is!
still here for the time being as DH wants a bath (!) and the doula is still suggesting we play for time so may leave it a weeny bit longer.

Is your doula with you mini?

Spidermama · 26/07/2007 11:14

Good luck miniegg.

I look forward to hearing about it.

miniegg · 26/07/2007 11:16

no. i just texted her to say the hospital was advising to go in (though they're not saying there's any hurry) and she is suggesting coming over here first and seeing if we can stick it out a bit longer.
maybe a good plan?I am keen to stay at home as long as poss - just don't want to have DH delivering the baby!
by the way still hoping we'll meet soon! i didn't get a contract from you for post natal work yet- did you send me anything?

miniegg · 26/07/2007 11:28

my instincts say no rush to hospital! doula on her way over and we will sit it out together for as long as possible/sensible. thanks for your messages everyone! mumsnet has kept me going for nearly 12 hours now!

NineUnlikelyTales · 26/07/2007 11:33

Good for you miniegg. I think if you needed to go in you wouldn't be here writing about it

Look after yourself/selves

miniegg · 26/07/2007 11:34

yeah, exactly. i'm not in enough pain yet! (not that i want to be in any more!)

Oooh - it's all v exciting. My contractions started when I was 9 days past due date. Did all sorts of things rather than go to hospital - went out to lunch, had TWO glasses of wine (figured it couldn't do any harm now and had so missed it for previous 9 months), dyed my hair (yeah random). Just generally kept busy until I really needed to go to hospital. Much more fun. Best of luck

NineUnlikelyTales · 26/07/2007 11:42

So now you know what to do, get drunk and have your hair dyed

CescaD · 26/07/2007 11:46

i wish you the very best on your birthing journey......trust in yourself, and go from there

remember, it is positive pain, pain with a purpose......stand firm and meet each contraction! welcome them as they bring your baby to you!

i love these threads ! xxxxx

Niecie · 26/07/2007 12:21

Hi miniegg - I was going to ask the same thing - are you still there? A good sign if the contractions are too strong to type through though. Still thinking of you.

Niecie · 26/07/2007 12:23

Meant to ask are you planning a natural birth or are you not bothered - you are doing so well so far.
