Am I in labour - Anyone up?????

I know this is a long shot at 2.25 but would like someone else's opinion please?

I am 39+3 and woke up at 12.30 with very stong BH pains in my tum and a sharp pain in my lower back. Thought I was dreaming I was in labour so got up and couldn't work out if I needed to go to the loo (sorry if TMI) or not.

Have been getting these pains now every 6 to 8 minutes....Should I put my tens machine on? wake up DH or just wait it out a while longer and see if they dissapear?

Any advice greatly appreciated...don't want to cause a fuss unneccessarily but haven't had the backache pains before!

Oh and my waters haven't broken!

Did you put the TENS on? You don't have to wait until it gets bad. In fact, IME it works better if you get into the flow of using it while you can still concentrate, so that by the time the contractions get stronger you know what to do and don't need to think too hard druing a contraction. Also, once you've had it on and working for 45m-1h or so, you can take it off and the effects last for 20-30mins - perfect for getting into the bath and using some hydrotherapy. TBH I wouldn't get into the bath in labour, even in early labour, without an awake adult in the bathroom or at least on call nearby.

Labour starting in your back doesn't necessarily mean posterior baby. My first two both started with backache and I felt the contractions mostly in my back for the first few hours.

Good luck! Keep mobile, eat, drink as you wish, remember to pee every hour or so - and relax!

how exciting...

my waters broke at hospital 2 mins before dd was born..... they said that was the only thing keeping her inside,

The tens machine may be really helpful with the pain, especially as it sounds like the pain is in your back....

keep going to the loo........

best of luck,

is this your first baby?

Feel really uncomfortable when I get up off the ball, just wish it was a space hopper so I could be a little more mobile!

Looking forward to hearing your good news later.

and LOL, I wanted horns on my birth ball too. Maybe a product opportunity there!

Looking forwards to MFO's news

Hey Hey Hey!!!! Do you know how nice it was to log and see that you were all thinking of me?!

Well, Harley was born at 5.06pm weighing 7lb 4oz!!!!! When we got to the hospital at 7.30am (yes I had insisted my DH eat mc donalds first while i laboured in the car!!! I was 4cm. Got into the bath (Tens machine wouldnt work!!! DOH!) had some gas and air and eventually pethidine (oh man was that good!) started to push at 3 and they let me go for 2 hours...Was starting to feel I couldnt go on when they said that they needed to use suction. Unfortunatley suction came off so they resorted to forceps..it all got a little scary towards the end but eventually the little guy was on my tummy and we were in tears!

I had a cut which was stitched by 'the nicest man ever'!

I am sore, beaten up and feel like I've been hit by a truck...enough about me! Harley is gorgeous!! I cannot believe how much I love him already...I cannot stop looking at him, I am so overwhelmed...

Thank you all so much for your support through my early labour...Flightattendant and MotherFunk, I want to thank you and if I knew you I'd kiss ya!

Big hugs

Flightattendant - I am laughing out loud at your 'first canine doula' comment!

He has now taken on the role of 'I will let you know when the baby is crying'....

Things are hectic here...how can a little guy cause so much havoc?!!?

Have decided will eat and sleep whenever and forget what day/time it is!

Thanks again for the wonderful help and support you all gave me..

Oh and how long does it take till you can sit down?

Myfairone... Congratulations! I think you should take your wee one to Cranial Osteopathy esp after having had ventouse and forceps.

I second the cranial osteo - we went to one cos ds was ventouse and seemed to prefer feeding on the right booby. Turned out he was a bit twisted and squished, and after a couple of appts he fed better and seemed generally 'looser' and more unravelled.. if you know what I mean.
