Induction Fears HELP

I'm 40+5 right now and will be induced on Wednesday if nothing happens beforehand.

I am so nervous and anxious about it all. Has anybody out there had a positive induction, I understand the length of time it can take to get going but I'm just worried about the complications etc.

Also, the fact I may have to spend the night there without my partner is really stressing me out, I need him there but I don't know how to get a room to myself instead of being on a ward.

Please send positive vibes x

Good luck ! I had two positive experiences - both mine were born within 4 hours of the commencement of treatment. Labour was pretty full-on , because the drugs push things along quickly. But nothing terrible happened - certainly no complications. Just two quick labours and they were both born perfectly naturally .

Don't stress about being without your partner - you'll be fine. . I must be a stoic type - I didn't have DH there either time because he was deployed overseas. You'll be fine - partners are not always very helpful to have around .

Good luck for Wednesday - you'll be a mum soon !

Hey there!

I completely understand how you feel, I was induced at 39 weeks and like you I was terrified. The only stories I'd heard were bad ones BUT I had no reason to be. It was absolutely fine! Yes it hurt, but I was able to deal with it, (and what labour doesn't) it was straight forward I had 2 6 hour gel and they broken my waters when I was 1cm 2 hours later I was fully dilated. Please please relax you WILL be ok. For me my labour was amazing I felt like superwoman afterwards, you don't need to be scared. There are plenty of people that have positive inductions! Then that fear into excitement you'll soon meet your little one. Good luck! You'll be amazing!!!

Well it isn’t really a positive induction story as such! I held out against induction with both of mine and delivered them safely and easily at 42+3 with expectant management.

My friend was induced and had a really easy time of it. Another friend didn’t have quite such an eaSy time, but certainly didn’t have a really bad delivery.

Personally I was really fearful about it as I had heard so many horror stories. However there are loads of positive stories on mumsnwt, just a case of traveling through them.
Best of luck! I’m sure it will all be fine Flowers

Phone and ask the ward about partners. All induction room were private at mine so DH stayed

Mine was boring and long but not traumatic. Try not to read too much about it. I did and it didn't help.

Good luck

Good luck for wednesday you will be fine i had a really positive experience not as bad as you think. I had really quick labour for first time and only pain relief had was gas and air. Just think of wednesday the moment u have your baby in your arms its all worth it.

Thanks everyone, I feel much better now.

I think I got myself in a tizz because both of my sisters experiences weren't great. I'm in a completely different hospital to them so I'm staying positive Smile

Just waiting for hospital to call now with my appointment time...eeeeek!
X

If you are in active labour your partner will be allowed to stay, I've been induced twice. Put in your birth plan any fears you have to make them aware. Good luck x

I got induced at 9pm, things started by 11pm & baby was in my arms by 3pm. Yes, it was really painful but I think it's because everything moves along so much faster because of the drugs.
It's not the most wonderful experience but I can't argue with a 4 hour labour!

I had one after my waters broke at 38+2. It was fine. Pessary at 1, contractions at 4.30, baby born with tens/gas and air at 8pm. Job done without the drip.

I had my baby around midday today following an induction that started at about 6am. My waters had broken the night before and I'm not in the UK so protocol is different here. It was fine and I feel amazing now. The contractions hurt but I was expecting that anyway. Didn't have any complications. I was 39+4.

If you are concerned about the pain, ask for an epidural early if that is the route you want to go down.
