Beck798 · 02/06/2019 14:15

I gave birth to my child 12 weeks ago since then I have had no sensation to urinate I can literally drink and drink but never feel like I need to go pee. I seen a specialist they said its the nerves and should come back up to 9 months and to keep going toilet evrey 4 hours! anyone else experienced this?

Hi there,

I only gave birth two days ago but I have this also. I've been told to just go to the bathroom every two hours and do my kegel exercises. Praying it comes back, it is very scary!

Beck798 · 02/06/2019 20:38

Aww hopefully it will come back im 12 weeks after birth and I'm really scared too can take months they told me x

It is mad that they don't seem to have any other options. I got such a fright. Did you have a delivery with interventions? I had a ventouse and episiotomy and I think it may have caused some damage as they tried to get my daughter out. Might be TMI 😶 but does you bladder just leak out if it is full without you being aware?

Beck798 · 03/06/2019 06:56

Yes I had to have forcepts and got cut then got a 3rd degree tear my baby was 9lb 6oz. No I don't leak at all just never get any sensation at all I need to go xx

I had a very low trauma easy birth but still had this. I had to set an alarm to go and try to go to the toilet! It was crap. I got the sensation back about 2 weeks I think though so you massively have my sympathy to still have this at 12 weeks.

Sounds like there isn’t much to be done but 9 months seems an insanely long time to wait for a follow up.

LifeIsGoodish · 03/06/2019 07:09

I had this with my bowels. It did take a long time to come back. I don't remember how long, but it was more-or-less back to normal by the time I became pregnant with dc2 18m later.

Perhaps if your nerves only stretch during labour, they regain their function fairly quickly, whereas if they actually tear they need to regrow from scratch, which takes time?

Presidentemmett · 03/06/2019 07:15

I had this with my first. I think it came back by 6 months. But the sensation came by in overdrive so I have to go for a wee a bit more often now.
Hope it comes back soon!

Beck798 · 03/06/2019 07:30

Ah hope they have only streched then they told me at the hospital it will take about 6-9 months so I'm hoping and praying that's the case..

@Beck798 Have been referred for some physiotherapy? Or seen a continence nurse? I'm asking because there might not be a lot you can do but there might be things to avoid (not leaving it more than 4 hours would be in that category). It's just that physios and nurses can do quite a lot of "educating", ie they see the full spectrum of problems and might have different strategies as things evolve.
Otherwise generally for physio, count 3 months postpartum to see a big improvement and then another 3. It might be that you'll see some slight changes in the next couple of weeks?

Beck798 · 03/06/2019 21:37

Yeah I see a physio but that's for my pelvic floor as it's weak just doing excerses. I went to see the gynaecologist last week she just said its nerves and to go the toilet evrey 4 or so hours to empty as I carnt feel any sensation to go and it can take 6-9 months to repair if its going too

I'm afraid 6-9 months is optimistic. Go back after 6, as they may be able to do electro stimulation with you. Nerve regeneration can take up to 2 years (I noticed a big difference at 12 months pp) and what you have after 2 years is it, nothing can be done. So make sure you don't leave it too long.

Beck798 · 07/06/2019 06:08

Didn't realise it can take 2 years they didn't tell me that god dam them they said it should be back by 6-9 months if not it won't come back. Did you have this too then hmmmbop?

It's rough isn't it. I simultaneously can't tell and yet almost constantly need a wee. If I feel really really grumpy it turns out I need a wee. This is 2 and 5 years post emcs. My last midwife had no feeling if she needed a wee, after 5 straightforward vb.

Beck798 · 07/06/2019 07:06

Oh crist so you carnt tell still after your last birth 2 years back? Did they say yours was nerve damage too? I'm 12 weeks pp now really hoping mine comes back im litetally praying

I had this for a short while after my forceps birth. I kept leaking and the nurses said oh that's normal after a baby, once I convinced them it was wee. They put a catheter in me as my nerves had been frazzled from the forceps. I had the catether for a week to let my nerves calm down. Wasn't great with the piles and stitches 😢 it took a few months to practically toilet train myself again and feel confident to not be near a toilet. The consultant checked my pelvic floor, she told me it gave up before I thought it did. I cancelled my follow up appointment. Now I'm fine but I'd get checked out and see what they can do for you.

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 07/06/2019 07:15

Oh I was also told the bladder like to hold liquid rather than be empty, I struggled to drink much for a while as I worried that I would have an accident. I'd say have one caffeine drink and then avoid them for the rest of the day as that makes the situation worse.

Beck798 · 07/06/2019 09:56

See im the oppersite I can pee but just never get any urge or sensations to go iv been checked out twice they said its from the traumatic birth the nerves are damaged x

Straightforward birth, only a very small tear and had this issue post birth. I'd have to take myself off to the toilet regularly, and the urge to actually go didn't come back for around six months. I used to be able to go eight hours plus without going for a wee and then realise that i should try and go. It was really odd, had no leaking or anything

Beck798 · 12/06/2019 06:16

I'm the same annlee3817 it's very odd did they tell you it's your nerves too. Im hoping mine comes back it's so worrying 😔
