VBAC Induction Success?

Hi All,
Have been trawling through old threads on this topic but struggling to find much encouragement so hoping to hear any experiences you may have to share on birth experiences of being induced when attempting a first VBAC.

My first birth was EMCS after “failure to progress”, made it as far as 6cm dilation before baby went back-to-back during labour and then went back down to 3cm so decision was taken to perform section.

Am currently 40+3 with second baby, have had two sweeps at 40+1 and 40+3 and both have found my cervix to be pretty unfavourable such that midwife could barely perform sweep.

Next step is to present at delivery suite at 41 weeks for balloon induction.

I am terrified of another long drawn out birth and particularly one that results in an instrumental vaginal delivery. I am not concerned about a repeat section, have mostly agreed to attempt VBAC in order to try and avoid long stay on post-natal ward and also to improve chances of a swift recovery.

Does anyone have any experiences to share? I am in half a mind to now request an elective section which I think I would rather than a drawn out failed induction and repeat EMCS.

Thanks in advance for any experiences shared!

DS1 - failure to progress. Foetal distress.

I had a VBAC with induction with a syntocinon with DS2.

The induction started at about 9am on day 1. He was born at about 10pm on day 2. I had a 7 hour break from the drip overnight.

At about 5pm on day 2 I agreed to a c/s for failure to progress. In the time it took for a theatre to become available I became fully dilated and after 2 hours of pushing and an episiotomy DS2 was born.

He stopped breathing after being born - no definite reason why. I wonder if the difficulties he has now are linked to this. He was in SCBU for 3 days.

My recovery was slow post episiotomy. Worse than the c/s.

If I had my time again I’d choose an elcs much much earlier. We were out quicker post c/s.

Have to run but wanted to say that mine was a very positive experience. First birth - induction, slow progress, failure to progress, poss fetal distress, emerg LSCS (it says in the book!).

Second time round I didn't want to be induced. SVD 40 mins after arriving at hospital (labour pains overnight from 9.30pm). Went to hospital at 1.30pm, baby born 2.20pm. 41 weeks. Uncomplicated delivery.

No vbac but have recently had a planned section after emergency first one. Hope that makes sense.
So far, was up faster and knew what to expect in regards to getting out of bed, pain relief etc. Drove at a Fortnight. My brain feels a lot more normal in comparison to first as well - good luck whatever you decide.

@NearlySchoolTimeAgain

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am reluctant to agree to the drip at all to be honest so useful to hear that it took so long for baby to emerge even with the drip being used. Also very important to consider the impact on the baby of a drawn out induction. Hope you and your boys are all doing well now.

Just to follow up in case folk google when looking for stories.

Have safely delivered a boy this morning at 40+5, no induction needed thankfully.

My plan was to elect for a section in the event that I didn’t go into labour spontaneously by 41 weeks.

The VBAC was really well managed by the hospital, I was constantly monitored but it did not mean I was strapped to the bed, I was able to be on the ball and stand etc. I felt I was given space and was mostly just cared for by the midwife right up until delivery. A wonderful experience that I would strongly recommend.
