A question about BH contractions v real contractions IYSWIM ...!

Have been having bh contractions for a couple of weeks now. Saw m/w yesterday, head fully engaged, she didn't think I would last past the w/e (so to speak!)

Anyway - all my bh contractions have been tightenings across the bump (though low down). Tonight has been much lower, almost in my groin (!) - and I've now had three or four in a row all about 30 mins apart.

I know the answer is "well yes this could be it" - but just interested to know - did anyone else find that bh contractions differed from the real thing in terms of location/feeling etc?

tee hee !!
it could be it

low down in the fanjo can indicate dilation is happening.....also, the regularity is a help, as is the intensity increasing and the time between them diminishing....also,if they spread into your back, and sort of radiate, then that can be an indicator...try to potter and carry on, and ignore it, if is the real thing ,you'll know...

fingerwoman · 19/07/2007 20:09

nope, mine felt exactly the same. I only knew it was the real thing because they got closer together and didn't stop coming

Miaou · 19/07/2007 20:13

OOoooh lulumama, I am getting back "pressure" too

i had tonnes of contractions with ds from 32 weeks onwards...was in and out of hospital...kept worrying that i was being total wimp...lots of people told me how they were "just" BHs, which may have been the case but they felt as bad as the real thing - so sympathy!

Things that helped me included eating lots, drinking lots, walking, bouncing on birth ball, using my TENs and baths.

Good luck and hopefully all these contractions mean labour will be v straightforward!

lulumama · 19/07/2007 20:25

well, you know what i;m going to say, don;t you?

sex and nipple stim

Miaou · 19/07/2007 20:29

LOL! I'm not reporting back on that aspect lulumama

all seems to have stopped for now ... sounding familiar?

yes....as i said, potter on, and your body will let you know when it is time , have a bath, go to bed, and if you wake up in labour , great, adn if not, then you are going to feel better for a good nights sleep!

Miaou · 19/07/2007 20:39

Good night's sleep .... ROFL

Haven't had one of those for weeks now - average about 4 hours (broken) sleep a night

HOWEVER I know what you are saying and don't worry, I'm not pacing up and down the living room waiting for things to kick off (I'm on here for a start!). Am determined to get some sleep if possible.

Keep your legs crossed until Saturday !

My BHs were regular as clockwork the last few days with both babies, between every 5 & 10 mins for hours on end. The only slight way that they felt different was that the real ones, once really kicking off, had a lot more periody pain very low down. The fake ones were strong and pressure and sore, but sharper pain rather than dull heavy pain. Oh, real ones also made me feel like my bum was being pulled up from the inside!

best of luck if it's the real thing.

Miaou · 20/07/2007 12:21

Still here! Got a great night's sleep too

Suzi2, that's exactly what they feel like! A couple more "twinges" this morning but nothing earth-shattering. Not really expecting anything to happen until this evening now.

I am watching this thread with interest as I've been getting the same sort of thing - am 38+1. The other night I woke up at about 4am with BHs every 10 mins or so - they felt like someone was squeezing me! They went when I got up though, so just a practice run...

Good luck Miaow!

lilylilyrose · 20/07/2007 14:33

miaou sorry!

suzi2 · 20/07/2007 22:10

Oooh, are we on for tomorrow then? :-) Remember, a girl... named Susan... :-)

Miaou · 20/07/2007 22:20

Har har suzi

Nothing happening today. Nada. Zilch. Baby is taking the piss now . Grrr.

My BH's were v v v v different to proper labour contractions.
no bh's with ds1.
With ds2 I had them from 20 weeks, getting very regular (5/6 an hour, every hour) by about 26 wks (to the end), to the point that I was monitored at around 30wks and they flipped a bit and kept me in to give me steriods in case the baby came (and I hardly had any when they monitored me - compared to normal). By the end they were "stop and breathe through it" type BH's, and I was thinking "oh god I am starting to remember what labour is like".
Then I went into labour - and all those BH's had been a walk in the farking park!

suzi2 · 20/07/2007 22:36

The calm before the storm Miaou . Both mine took the piss for a few days (at least) but at least by the time it was the real thing I was so pissed off by it all I didn't think it was real and got quite far on before realising!

icet · 20/07/2007 22:36

I thought mine wr bh from around 39 weeks, turns out I was in slow labour (ouch) and all in my back (bigger ouch), kept hounding the poor hosi and by the time labour came (40+10), I was on first name terms with doc ha ha... I'd say when the big L kicks in and you can't speak, then DS is on the move! good luck and as for sleep...make the most of it! we walked the streets at all hours the last couple of days, BH or L every 6-10min xx

CaraLondon · 21/07/2007 08:40

Fingers crossed for you for today, Miaou

MadAsABagOfFrogs · 21/07/2007 08:58

Good luck with it all Miaou. Having just gone through it all myself I sympathise.
