Almost black wee?

I had a csection just over a week ago.

Yesterday and today I went for a wee and the water was practically black. Is this normal??

I am still bleeding but not heavily I wouldn't say. I literally looked like black water in the toilet bowl.

I'm a little worried.

Hi, this doesn't sound normal. Can you ring the postnatal ward? I was told to call mine if there were any issues after my section.

Hope everything's ok. Xo

Yes I'd see a GP or phone midwife. It's not normal but can be caused by various things I think, like medication, or have you had a blood transfusion? But could be other issues too so you need to find out. Hope you feel OK Flowers

Not normally, no. See a doc.

cathyandclare · 16/05/2019 12:51

You should probably be checked out today by GP or PN ward. There are a few causes. Are you otherwise well, any muscle aches? On medication? Sometime muscle breakdown can make the wee look like coca cola.

Alternatively jaundice can darken the urine, you may also notice darker skin, helloing of the whites of the eyes, itching and pale poos. Obviously you could just be dehydrated or it could be dark blood from the lochia- but better to be checked anyway.

Yellowing, not helloing! Congrats on your baby Flowers

Bunnybigears · 16/05/2019 12:55

Definitely get it checked out, if it was normal they would have warned you about it.

Phoned midwife who didn't seem to know. Waiting on GP calling me.
I had a blood transfusion during pregnancy but not at c section.
I have Ulcerative Colitis too and I am on steroids.

Doctor didn't seem worried either or no what it was. Maybe just blood because I have just had a baby.
He said as I feel fine nothing to do. But if I start feeling unwell to take action. He said a urine sample will show blood in it anyway because I still am bleeding.

🤷‍♀️

OP as you have UC I think you might be just as well to contact your IBD team and ask their advice.

My Colitis clinic has an email address to be able to contact the IBD nurse outside of appointments. Do you have access to something like this?

bananasinnighties · 16/05/2019 21:08

Yes I can contact my IBD nurse, they are really good. I just thought not to because it's not coming out my bum !

But it might be medication related so it's probably worth me doing.

So far it's one wee a day like it (for two days) I am observing every wee carefully to try and work out if it's coming from the wee part or the other part.

I've found that my IBD team are very good at looking at my health holistically. They'll be very familiar with the bits of you that may have been affected by the c section.

(My IBD consultant diagnosed a stress fracture in my foot that A&E and my GP had failed to recognise!)

bananasinnighties · 17/05/2019 01:25

@INeedNewShoes it's a rubbish illness isn't it? Mine was properly diagnosed in pregnancy, although I had been ill with it for sometime before.
