Being induced tomorrow morning. Any positive stories?

Hi all, I'm 40 +11 with my first baby. Sitting here crying (hormones probably not helping) as I'm feeling so overwhelmed by being induced tomorrow. It will be a pessary and my midwife says that my cervix is soft and open - I guess this is a good sign? Any positive stories about being induced would be gratefully recieved :)

I was you 6 months ago! I sobbed as well. My advice:
When you have the pessary walk walk walk!
If you have to go on the drip then check that an epidural would be available if you decide you need one. (It will be - but good to show midwife you’re on the ball).
Ask loads of questions so you feel involved in the process.
And finally keep calm and good luck. I had a long induction with complications (that would have arisen if I’d gone into labour naturally) but it was ok and I look back positively. Xxx

Yes!
Induced via pessary at 40+5 and had a positive experience.
It got things going quickly.
8 pounder, gas and air only.
Must have been a positive experience because I'm 13 weeks pregnant! Either that or I'm a glutton for punishment Grin
Best of luck! X

Thank you both. I really appreciate it. I really want an episural so I will tell them as soon as I can about that. I really appreciate your replies tonight, thank you. Oh and good luck with your pregnancy @longtime

Good luck @MissMilly88. Let us know how it goes! Soon you'll have your lovely baby in your arms.

Me! It was fine, about 8 hours from pessary to baby. Water birth, g&a and absolutely nowhere near as painful as I'd imagined.

HalfBloodPrincess · 15/05/2019 11:26

My 3rd baby was induced by pessary at 41+6, after having #1 and #2 at 38 and 39 weeks spontaneously.

My induced birth was the easiest birth and labour of the 3! Few hours after insertion my waters popped, few hours later baby was here!

I purposely didn’t google or research what induction involved as you rarely get a good story, but since it happened to me I’ve heard so many people say it was a positive experience for them.

Thank you all. I'm in hospital now and I've dilated 3cm this morning so no need to be induced after all! I hear so many stories of women who go in to natural labour the day before or the same day as being induced - so strange!

Best of luck! I went for a check up on my due date and they said they were admitting me there and then to be induced because of my age (40) . I really resisted it, I thought I'd be there for ages waiting for it to start but in the end it was the quickest labour ever, I dont even remember if it was painful ( my first labour was a full 30 hours) and my baby came out so calm and beautifully relaxed, I realised it didn't matter how we started it. Glad to hear that you have started.. wishing you and baby all the best.

MissMilly88 · 15/05/2019 11:52

Ah that's really good. Thank you. All you ever hear are the horror stories of birth, and I totally understand why people want to talk about this (and probably need to), but that's all that then sticks in your mind when you then go through it yourself.

I was induced at 40+9 and cervix was already 2cm dilated when they checked so they could go straight ahead and break my waters without the peasant. Had an epidural and the whole thing was amazing, I really didn’t expect it to be such an incredible experience. Yes it was painful before I finally decided to get an epidural, but the birth went really well. Think positive you’ll be fine!

Blossom28 · 15/05/2019 11:57

Pessary not peasant! 🤣

AgnesNaismith · 15/05/2019 12:04

A live birth thread!!!!!!! Grin

I came on to say I was induced and delivered 4 hours later. This was at 40 +14 and actually a massive relief - but hopefully you don’t need the positive stories anymore Wink

MissMilly88 · 15/05/2019 12:24

Thank you :) contractions are 5 mins apart but will be opting for an epidural later on I think! Going to try to think positively, your stories have really helped so thank you so much x

How did it go OP? X

MissMilly88 · 17/05/2019 10:22

Hi :) had an epidural to get me from 4 to 10cm but it only worked on half of my body unfortunately! Was painful but breathing helped. Gas and air made me really sick. Then 2 hours of pushing and she was here :) thanks so much again for the reassurance it really helped to calm me down when I really needed it! X

Congratulations!! I hope you and baby are doing well.
My epidural didn't work totally on one side either. However I'm sure it gave you a bit of respite to allow you to conserve some energy for the pushing stage. Well done and congratulations!

MissMilly88 · 17/05/2019 12:08

Thanks so much :) it was frustrating at the time as I was so desperate for it to work but it meant when I was pushing it wasn't too painful which was good :)

Great. Also meant you could feel when to push as well! Congratulations again! Enjoy cuddling your baby. Flowers
