Posted here and in pregnancy.

Im Being induced tonight following episodes of reduced movements. Im 40 weeks.

I'm really bloody nervous Sad

Can you share your induction experiences with me, if you have a moment?

Any tips on staying as comfortable as possible?

How long yours took from first pessary to birth?

What pain relief you had?

How long you and baby were in?

Any words of encouragement welcome.. just no horror stories please Grin

I had gel and an hour later was in established labour. Three hours later I'd given birth!

I'd had lunch just before the gel, so threw up lots, so maybe avoid food! The contractions were intense fairly quickly so I had an epidural as soon as I could. I could still feel when they were happening but they weren't painful anymore. We were in overnight (gave birth 6pm) and left at midday the next day. I think I got fairly lucky for a first birth! Good luck! x

Two pessaries on Wednesday afternoon. Waters broke at midnight, baby born at 6am on Thursday. Home in time for tea!

I can't remember much of mine (three-day labour with failure to progress) but was put on a hormone drip, i think - don't think it was a pessary - had a sleep, and when I woke up was fully dilated and the end was in sight!

I was given an epidural, which didn't work, but the pain wasn't bad at all. And I had gas and air too, which was lovely!

Baby refused to turn so I had to have a C-section, but the induction part (and actually the birth on the whole) wasn't half as bad or painful as I'd feared. Wasn't a lovely walk in the park, obviously, but I wasn't out of control or in feral pain.

My tip is bring loads of snacks, ear plugs, magazines, comfy slippers, dressing gown, eye mask - anything that'll make you comfortable and relax as this will help you in the long run.

Try not to worry too much - you can do this! It's all going to be ok.

I've never been induced but just wanted to wish you good luck op. I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll have you baby soon x

I remember feeling like you. Both of my pregnancies ended up going over by 2 weeks and I was induced twice.

First labour, had waters broken (not sure why I wasn’t given pessary Maybe I was already dilating?) then put on syntocin drip. Once the drip was turned up, I needed an epidural. Labour was approx 12 hours and pretty straightforward.

Induction 2 was given pessary, 6 hours later my contractions started. My waters were broken and full labour started very soon after. Labour was officially 90 minutes but more like 45! No need for syntocin drip and no time for any pain relief other than gas and air!

In “normal” labour the body produces endorphins to help with the pain, but when you are put on the drip the body hasn’t had time to produce these, so it’s very likely you may need an epidural to manage the pain.

I was adamant that I wanted a natural birth but I’m glad I had the epidural- i could still feel all the contractions and babies movements and the pain was manageable.

2nd time round, I really got into my own little world and just went with what my body was telling me. With every contraction I imagined that I was pushing out the pain.i did have a bloody sore jaw for weeks after though, from where I had been biting so hard on the gas and air mouth piece Grin

With both I was home as soon as they let me! Approx 12 hrs afterwards.

Good luck!

Just keep thinking about seeing your beautiful baby and holding them in your arms!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 27/04/2019 18:03

Good luck! I had 2 different induction births. First one was tough but not a horror story. It just took a while for things to get going, then I wasn’t dealing well with pain so had an epidural which really slowed things down. Baby came out fine in the end though. All in all it took around 24 hours from start to finish, then a couple of days staying in.

Second induction was so different. It took a couple of hours for me to start contracting but once I did there was no stopping them! I even managed to get in the bath, the midwife was very experienced and so was able to let me stay in the bath without taking me out to examine me.
I gave birth in the bath, he was out with a few good pushes!

I think one of the main things that helped was staying calm and really truly relaxing between contractions. I really let my body flop so that I had energy for the next one. Obviously with your first time it’s all new so just go easy on yourself.

hammeringinmyhead · 27/04/2019 21:03

Good luck! I had a pessary at 1pm, contractions started at 4.30pm and I gave birth with a tens machine and a few puffs of gas and air at 8pm. They aren't all long and extra-painful!

SparrowBo · 27/04/2019 21:06

I had an induction. I can't remember the details but all went very well. No pain relief, all very straightforward. I felt in control, well supported and safe.

My dd arrived calm and safe.

All best wishes.

pourmeanotherglass · 27/04/2019 22:20

I was induced at 11 days overdue. Mild contractions started straight away, and I played cards with DH for a couple of hours. He went home, and I tried to get some sleep, but the contractions got stronger and it all happened quickly, DH only just got back in time. Just had gas and air, and baby was fine. She is 16 now.

NanooCov · 27/04/2019 23:44

I was induced at 38+5 due to my gestational diabetes. Pessary at 6.30pm, baby arrived at 2.15am. Gas and air only. The labour wasn't dissimilar to my first spontaneous delivery at 40+5. Good luck!

areukiddingme · 27/04/2019 23:47

If only you knew that could have been a possibility when you decided to breed’ you could have prepared yourself,

are you a part of our Invasion or a lone wasp? Hmm

OP it'll be fine, I quite enjoyed my induction. It was a laugh. They really look after you. Good luck.

firsttimebabybirther · 28/04/2019 00:10

I wasn't induced. Bringing a baby into the world is so daunting no matter how it's done. Good luck , you've got this GrinThanks

whatsnewchoochoo · 28/04/2019 00:41

I was induced due to GD. It took a long time and ended in c section but it was absolutely fine. No distress, no trauma.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 28/04/2019 11:23

Any baby news? 👶

Februaryblooms · 28/04/2019 19:20

Thank you all for the replies, I was reading them as things progressed last night!

I had the pessary at 10:00pm, some mild contractions began at 1:00am.

By 5:00am I was contracting regularly and they were getting painful so I was wheeled round to delivery where things picked up at a crazy pace, I wasn't prepared for that.

I wanted an epidural but there was a delay and by the time they arrived to set things up I was in transition and howling like a wolf. I had to make do with gas and air, almost beheading poor DP by gripping him in a headlock as each wave came over me (he was fab bless him) and she was born at 9.45am Grin

Second degree tear, bloody exhausted and the furthest thing from my birth plan but I'm absolutely in love and she's amazing.

I'd do it all over again Smile
