What to bring for c section? Recovery tips?

My c section is scheduled for 5 weeks time so I’ve started looking into things to pack in the hospital bag. For those that had c sections, what did you bring? What did you find really useful? Is there anything you wish you’d known beforehand? And finally, does anybody have any recovery tips? I’ve got a 6 year old DD so any helpful tips would be much appreciated.

Sorry just starting to panic now as it’s getting closer Blush

There are a couple of threads I’ve found useful here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/3533361-c-section-what-do-i-need-to-know

I had one 5 years ago & soon due another but had forgotten lots, so found these good reminders. The worst bit I recall was the digestive difficulties afterwards so don’t underestimate the need for things like the fybogel and peppermint!

Best wishes Smile

@GreenDill - I had a planned section 11 weeks ago now and my recovery has been fantastic.

Big knickers
Loose trousers / nighties
Bath in salt water and leave wound to air dry
Get moving as soon as you feel up to it, but try not over do it.
Keep on top of painkillers for as long as needed.
If you need to cough / sneeze etc, hold your stomach / scar

I'm so glad I had a section. I couldn't believe how well I felt and how quickly.

One for the section procedure, talk to the people there. Make sure if you feel sick etc that you tell them as they can give you something.

Good luck xxx

I second the above. Move asap. Completely avoided the trapped wind by doing this. Not sure if it's the same for planned but I was given the injections, ten day course to take after. Spinal? Walk in the park. Injections? Made me cry on at least four occasions but that was a lot of hormonal haven't I been through enough without having to have these horrible things too haha. Take pain killers half hour before then helped. You can put them in your thigh or stomach. I was told stomach was easier. I beg to differ, felt like forcing the needle through sinuey chicken. If you're planning on BF know that csection can apparently delay your milk coming in by a day or two so you're looking at day four or five pp. Nobody told me this and I wish I'd known. TBF nobody told me milk didn't come in until around day 3 with a normal birth so hay ho. Be kind to yourself. I had a walk in the park csection, discharged the next day and pottering about down the shops by day three but I knew when too much was too much. Ask for help, ask for baby to be passed to you. Lots of pillows on the bed to prop yourself up. Good luck I hope it goes really well for you and you have a lovely quick recovery x
