What drinks/snacks did you pack in your labour bag?

With DS1 I didn't pack any and remember feeling quite hungry. This time round I want to take some in but unsure what I could pack that's not 'junk'.

I still have 3 weeks left so ideally stuff I can put in there now that won't go off!

Belvita biscuits, haribo sweets, cereal bars, just stuff like that really. Anything that would give a bit of energy and easy to eat. Also still lucozade was brilliant for me

DeadDoorpost · 31/03/2019 21:21

Haribo, s&v crisps (big mistake coz I threw them up.. tastes vile) flavoured water, mini cheddars and cocktail sausages and sausage rolls.

I didn't end up having them when in labour (except the crisps). Had them afterwards when my appetite came back.

None at all! In those days you were kept nil by mouth in case you needed an anaesthetic for an emergency c section.
I wouldn’t have needed them anyway- I gave birth to DD, had some hospital tea and toast, then went home with her a few hours later. We used to just eat three meals a day - snacking wasn’t a thing.

HeyMicky · 31/03/2019 21:32

I packed all kinds of delicious things - then was made nil by mouth in case of a CS and had to watch DH eat them all.

Pack two bags, and hide yours

isthistoonosy · 31/03/2019 21:32

Dried fruit, water, nuts, chocolate, bread

Hoggytat · 31/03/2019 21:53

Water, breakfast bars, apple, crisps

Didn't get to eat any of them as my body decided it wanted an empty stomach for the entire labour. 🤢

katmarie · 31/03/2019 22:06

Oat cereal bars, belvita biscuits, crisps, water, and lucozade, oh and glucose tablets. Wasnt allowed any of it once they gave me the epidural! But it was handy afterwards.

justasking111 · 31/03/2019 22:08

Oh that post birth cup of tea was the best.

spugzbunny · 31/03/2019 22:09

I had a bag of jelly babies but I wasn't allowed food after the epidural. The midwife has OH go get me some none-fizzy lucazade. The sort in the sports bottle.

mummmy2017 · 31/03/2019 22:09

Add a bottle of squash, always good when you need a drink.
Worth taking food for him as well. As. If you don't want him miss just when you need help, or flagging during the night.

happymummy12345 · 31/03/2019 22:25

I didn't. I didn't even think about eating anything.

Smotheroffive · 31/03/2019 22:30

My cupboards were full on anything I wanted, including my own brand of tea, and my own bed to sleep in with my family (not to mention my own bath whenever I wanted it and food 24/7) happy happy days

Smotheroffive · 31/03/2019 22:31

Did keep organic yoghurt and honey in, for the keeping the strength up.

annlee3817 · 31/03/2019 22:40

Ah sorry, apart from the still lucozade I didn't eat anything during labour, like someone above I vomited throughout, but the snacks were great post birth as I opted to stay in for the first night

Thejoysof2boys · 01/04/2019 18:10

Thanks everyone for the suggestions

I think I'll take a few biscuits and lucozade in in case. I didn't eat with my first so worried about getting sick 🤦‍♀️

Last time I was unlucky and went into labour when my dinner was in the oven, only had time to turn the oven off as I didn't have any mild contractions just straight in with the nasty ones so I hadn't eaten all day! Hopefully this time will be different...

Chewy sweets, dry salty stuff, flapjacks. You will be starving!!!

soundsystem · 01/04/2019 20:29

Very, very cold water (frozen bottles so they thawed out to be drinkable but cold) and those weird Lucozade chalky tablet things. Also Nutrigrain blueberry bars, which is something I haven't eaten since school but suddenly really wanted. And a lot of boiled sweets for some reason, which were completely ignored.

stepbystepdoula · 03/04/2019 06:28

Dried fruits and plenty of fluids

Newyearsameoldshit · 03/04/2019 09:18

Jelly babies, lucozade sweets and lucozade for energy. Wasn't allowed anything after the epidural went in as it looked like I was headed for a c section. Midwife let me have a couple of jelly babies just before pushing as things were looking up!

Afterwards nice biscuits, nuts and some fruit cheered me up during a 2 night stay on a shared ward.

I went shopping whilst in labour and for some reason wanted to buy a pack of apples, and for some reason when in hospital ate loads of them; usually not a fan of apples! Also took cereal bars, mini cheddars and some of the chewy drumstick sweets- didn’t eat half as much as I thought I would but glad I had some bits and bobs in case.
