Having a panic - 41+5 HELP! Any advice?

foxybrown · 11/07/2007 20:05

Am 41 + 5 today. Had monitoring at 41 + 3 and all fine. MWs booked me in for a hospital induction on Friday and have told me I will lose my homebirth at 42 weeks.

This is number 4, my pregnancies have been great, my births have been great - the last two were at home and all went very smoothly.

Today I had two acupuncture sessions, sex, nipple tweaking for an hour last night, curry, she just doesn't want to budge. Had a show on and off for about two weeks now. Oh, and I've had 4 sweeps too. And am taking homeopathic remedies too.

I've had a fair few false alarms where the contractions start, then I might go to bed to get some rest thinking "this is it" but they don't go anywhere.

I don't think there's much else I can do, but I'm so upset about it. My first two were on the day, and my 3rd 10 days late. I'm not coping terribly well, can anyone help? Thanks.

pineapple worked for me as well - I was 8 days overdue, ate a pineapple (hate the damn things - haven't been near one since) and my waters broke a couple of hours later.

Judy1234 · 11/07/2007 21:29

You won't actually lose your homebirth unless you choose to however, will you because you have a legal right to give birth at home so if you do lose it it really is through your choice or lack of insistence on it.

My twins came at 40 weeks which is on some doctors' views too late but my midwife was happy they were doing fine. Most twins arrive by 38 weeks or earlier.

ROFL princesspowersparkle.....

....c'mon baby foxy, we're all dying to meet you.

hope to hear you have a baby in the morning love, try to get some rest while you still can xx

foxybrown · 11/07/2007 21:44

I am seeing the Community MWs tomorrow morning and I will talk to them about a homebirth after 42 weeks. I think I'm comfortable with 42 + 3. That's another 4 days and feels reasonable.

Then I'm going to have pineapple. And run the Mothers race.

And I'm going to have salad with a nice oily dressing.

In Klaws link to natural inductions, was my absolute favourite - some MWs recommend Vodka .

If I have a sensible plan, I can cope.

Has to be fresh not tinned.

I admit I was desparate and ate the whole thing!

bananabump · 11/07/2007 22:10

Best of luck! What you need to do is let your ladygarden grow out and let your nails get all scraggly, then don't wash anything you were planning on wearing, and give the kids loads of sugar so they don't sleep. You're BOUND to go into labour then, it's sods law!

Fresh pineapple has been my pregnancy craving so I've avoided it up to this point (36+4) but as of 38 weeks I'm going to scoff it like it's going out of fashion.

annobal · 12/07/2007 08:41

Foxy, you might wnt to try cranial osteopathy - that and sex seemed to knock me over (into labour, not literally, if that had hapenned I'd prob still be there ). I know a good one and don't think you are too far. Can check if she does home visits??

foxybrown · 12/07/2007 12:26

Had a crappy night, awake and 2, 4.30 (queue sobbing that I hadn't gone into labour over night!) and 6.

Saw the MW this morning, we have agreed Sunday for induction now. The good news is I'm 6 cm dialated. The problem is I'm not having contractions, so if they don't come by Sunday, they will induce at the hospital. I'm happy about this as my team of MWs are on so I'll be delivered in a quiet ward by someone I know - well, thats the plan.

Given the backache I've had this morning, I'm hoping for some baby-action this afternoon!

Thanks everyone, for all your support!

Nipple massage - apparently....

Klaw · 12/07/2007 12:38

Jeez! Foxy! 6cms with no contractions, when it starts it will be over in a flash! Your body knows exactly what it's doing. Has mw done a Bishop's Score? If it's 9 or more than I think that induction on Sunday will not be so bad.... And I don't believe you would actually still be pg then anyway!

RELAX, make sure that your body has no fight or flight hormones going on cos that will halt labour. Chill out, plan a special treat to look forward to for every day till Sunday, lunch with friend, pedicure, massage from dh, trip to park with dc when it's nice, lovely favourite takeaway meal, indian head massage..... you get my drift?

Do NOT worry about this birth anymore, it will happen by Sunday so relax and your body will know it's OK to go up a gear and get labouring.

will be watching with baited breath!

lulumama · 12/07/2007 12:41

darling, you don;t need inducing, a couple of good coughs, baby will fly out !!!

good girl. see all those contractions and twinges have been doing something !!

i bet if your waters go, baby will be out in a jiffy...probably only the membranes holding him in.....

you are already more than half way there

chin up chuck ! won;t be long now

and will be very very quick when it kicks off

Princesspowersparkle · 12/07/2007 12:42

Wow Foxy, 6cm with no pain??!!!!!! Like Klaw says, when it goes its gonna be quick! I didn't realise it was possible that you could be 6cm without contractions!
At least you know that within 4 days you will be holding your LO.
Best of luck- hope you go into labour before Sun xxx

hertsnessex · 12/07/2007 12:44

6cm is fab. wishing you lots of baby out vibes!

i was 4cm when i went to be indcued for medical reasons at 36wks and hadnt even had a twinge!

cx

CarGirl · 12/07/2007 12:44

perhaps you will be dreaming about giving birth and wake up to find yourself pushing!!!! I've only ever been 1cm dilated when induced!

You've only got 4cm to go!

twoplusone · 12/07/2007 14:02

wow foxy 6cm and no pain and contractions. Hopefully baby will be here before sunday .. and as others have said, when things really kick ooff babs will be here in no time.

Goodluck

Well done Foxy - congratulations!!!!!

Klaw - can you check your crystal ball for my little one, am 38+5!?!?!? Was hoping for today as its hubby's birthday but she is not moving.......!!

xx

Klaw · 13/07/2007 17:56

Nath,

My crystal ball says that you are going to give birth sometime in the next 4 weeks!

Can't tell you much more than that at this point in time, especially as I don't know your story, don't think we've met before have we?

But I hope you've been following the stories of some of the lovely ladies here, especially the ones like Foxy and DomesticGrumpess who had the strength to wait for their labours to start properly and didn't rush in for 'help' when nothing seemd to be happening. It so doesn't happen like portrayed at the movies or on Eastenders

So I regularly try to post links so you can do your own research and make up your own mind about stuff, especially the stuff that gets on my wick, like induction! It should be reserved for real valid medical reasons which save babies lives, not put them further at risk...
