Bag is all packed for a natural birth but now I will be having a c section, what extras should I pack? The only one I have so far is my own pillow for the one or 2 nights stay.

I’ve been advised high waisted underwear to avoid the scar, peppermint oil capsules to help with trapped wind, things like headphones/book etc assuming its elective and there is a chance you have to wait all day if there are emergencies otherwise I can’t think I’ve been advised to bring much different to what I had for my first delivery. Good luck.

Big pants
Over the bump trousers or leggings/tunic
(Under bump = on the scar)
Water bottle with a sports cap so you can drink lying down
Shower gel on a hook
Crocs or flips flops or other shoes yiu cN put on without leaning down.
Dried apricots, figs and liquorice to keep things moving after the anaesthetic.

Pack baby clothes for 3 days as well

Thank you, I’ve got big pants but can’t quite tell if they’ll be over the scar as the bump pushes them down!

Slippers (I got cheap slip on ones so I could throw then away after) as you'll need these to walk to theatre (I did anyway).

Big pants - agree
Big pj bottoms / leggings / nighties
Dressing gown

My section was great and recovery has been fantastic. Good luck xx

Wet wipes, for you. I sweated it all out after my emcs and would have loved to clean up a bit before I could move. Cheep cotton granny knickers, see above.
A bolshie attitude! After my first emcs I was left over night without being able to reach the light switch or my bag so I slept with the light on and my contract lenses in. I nearly didn't get anything to eat either until a hca saw me feeding my baby and eating some peanuts and kicked off with me because I wasn't eating enough... Anyway, ring that bell and get the help you need!

A small plastic basket for all your bits and pieces including phone so you don't have to twist your torso too much to reach for something. Also a super long extension cord to charge your phone.

Also, some women avoid peppermint as it may hinder milk production. There is also an opinion that licorice can cause blood pressure issues. Drink lots of water to aid bowel function, and keep on top of pain killers.

Lots of snacks, sandwiches, water and fruit! The combination of major surgery with the adrenaline of having a baby meant I was awake for crazy hours, and ended up starving because I couldn’t get out of bed to reach a vending machine or the tea area.

Always do great disposable underwear which you can easily tear at the sides to remove, I found these really good as no bending or the likes involved

I used 2 folded muslin cloths apply pressure to my scar tissue, really helps when first moving about so if you have a little pillow or cushion at home might be worth packing

Talc powder for putting on the compression tights, I found it helped them slide up easier

Good luck!

Satin or silk pj bottoms, makes it easier to slither off the bed. The first time you get up can be over whelming so take all the help you can.

Cough sweets in case you have General anaesthetic. I’m sure you won’t but I did and when I came round I could not stop coughing, the tickle in my throat was unbelievable and trying to cough and not burst stitches...,not fun!
