Too fat to fit into scrubs?

This is an embarrassing one but I'm my DD's birthing partner and I'm worried that if she has to have a c-section, I won't fit into the scrubs!
I'm about a UK 24, and fairly tall and broad. I carry my weight on my boobs and tummy.
I'm probably being silly as they must get some big blokes, but do they have scrubs to fit all sizes? Do they even give you scrubs or is it a gown? It seems to be scrubs on One Born Every Minute...

My 2XL husband had scrubs that where too big. He wanted to keep them as they were so comfortable.

You'll be fine

I had scrubs as my dd birthing partner, I am a similar size to you they did fit rather snug but it was ok for the time I wore them.

Good luck.

I work in theatres and we never have enough of the largest size. It might be worth asking your DD to contact her midwife and ask what happens if you can't get in them.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 21/03/2019 12:06

We only have up to xl as standard which I'd say would accommodate up to size 20 maybe.
I know the main theatres do have bigger scrubs in stores. I've also known them just to put two surgical gowns one on front, one on the back like a coat.
Don't worry too much. In 15 years, I've never seen anyone who wasn't sorted one way or another.

Papergirl1968 · 21/03/2019 12:45

Hopefully she won't need a c-section, but she's only small and baby was measuring pretty big at the last scan. We have another scan later so should have more idea then.
The other thing that's worrying me if it is a c-section, is how dd will cope when they put in her epidural and prep her as from what I've seen, they don't let partners in till they're ready to start. She's only 17 and will be very scared.

It's not as scary as you think, I had an emergency section and even with the obvious time pressure everyone was calm and reassuring. The midwife who was with my in Labour before it became an emergency also came down to theatre, so at least there is a somewhat familiar face.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/03/2019 15:43

She'll be okay. I haven't had a c section but I've had a lot of major surgery and the nurses will be lovely and reassuring, they'll look after her.

Thanks everyone

My second emergency section, dh was firmly holding my shoulders for the spinal in theatre. I wanted a GA (long story) and to be honest, they would never have got it in without him forcing my shoulders down. Everyone was completely on board with him being there.

Will she be seeing a consultant after the next scan? If she is, get her to mention it then.

CherryPavlova · 21/03/2019 18:34

Buy yourself a set in advance

Papergirl1968 · 21/03/2019 18:49

She's had a scan today and got another in two weeks, followed by consultant appointment, so will mention it.
Would they let me bring me own Cherry?

My own!

I should think so. Ask. My daughter is a medic and she has always used her own scrubs as she is very slender and the one she left in theatre always drowned her. Bring them freshly laundered at 60 degrees. It’s more about fire risk from static than anything else but some staff don’t understand that.
They’re not expensive and good for fancy dress afterwards.

Rememberallball · 23/03/2019 16:43

I used to be a size 24/26 and had my own scrubs delivered from main laundry room every week - think they were ‘orange’ colour (the size identifier is a strip of colour along the back of the top and the drawstrings of the trousers). Definitely have a chat with the midwife at DD’s next appointment (if you go with her) or ask as soon as she goes into hospital if it’s possible for an appropriate sized pair to be found from main theatres. As for buying your own pair, you can get the quote easily off Amazon or other uniform suppliers, but be prepared for them to not allow you to wear them unless coming out of a sealed package showing they are ‘clean’ and not been worn outside.

Papergirl1968 · 23/03/2019 16:46

I'll need to get two pairs off amazon really, Remember, - one to try on and one to leave sealed. A lot of the reviews on amazon said they come up quite big.
