How did you feel 10 weeks PP?

Im currently pregnant and have been invited to a close friends wedding this summer which will involve me driving 5 hours from home (without stops) with a 9-11 week old baby (depending on their arrival date!). The thought of this panics me a little - but I am known to be a bit of a worrier, so I wondered, how were you feeling at this stage post partum? Does this seem doable?

I'm currently 6 weeks post c section and I'm almost 100% recovered. I'd feel totally fine in the car for that amount of time (personally).

I also think I'd be fine with baby although would have to make quite a few stops.

With my first pregnancy / birth - it took me a very long time to recover, however I had a complicated birth. I wouldn't have wanted to do that.

I guess it all depends on how everything goes. There's nothing to say you won't have a complication free birth etc and feel totally up to it.

I suppose you'd have to see nearer the time - I think I'd say yes but let her know that you'd have to absolutely confirm nearer the time, I'm sure she'd understand x

Yes I would've felt fine with that at 10 weeks post partum. In fact DD turned 12 weeks at the end of last December and we went away for Xmas for nearly a week including a long drive.

Jinglejanglefish · 17/03/2019 15:56

Also DD would've slept the drive at that age

I'd been back at work for four weeks and was absolutely fine. I didn't have a C section.

I did an eight hour flight with a 12 week old (for work) and that was fine too. Much easier than when she was mobile.

No a baby can only stay in a car seat max two hours .

Sweetooth92 · 17/03/2019 16:04

Should be fine! We drove Nottingham-Disneyland Paris when DS was 12 weeks old. Lots of stops, he slept most the way and I felt great to be busy and on my feet all day etc

I'd say honestly wait and see how you feel. You don't know how the birth will go, as a pp said.
I had a virtually straightforward birth (once labour actually began to progress). And I felt fine very quickly. Back in pre pregnancy clothes a month later, I wasn't breastfeeding, was back on the combined pill. I didn't feel like I'd even been pregnant or given birth. Of course it could have been very different though.

I think you'll be fine - I did 2 hour drives with DD from her being 3 weeks old.

As a PP has said (somewhat unhelpfully though) babies can only be in their car seats for 2 hours at a time so you'll need to stop. If I'm doing a long drive then we'll stop at a Services, I'll grab a coffee and do a nappy change and that breaks it up nicely.

Junebug55 · 17/03/2019 16:48

Thanks all, that's really helped ease my worries. I'll tell her I'm a yes for now but will just have to let her know for definite once baby has arrived and I know what state I'm in. Hopefully she'll understand. Smile

I'm nearly seven weeks PP. Its my first baby. I'm almost recovered. I had a good birth thankfully but had two second degree tears which were stitched up afterwards. Hopefully you will be fine.

MonkeyToucher · 18/03/2019 16:37

As others have said - you will in all likelihood feel fine , but a baby that age really shouldn’t spend 5 solid hours in a car seat. You will need at least one stop but probably more. Even if it weren’t bad for their spine, I don’t think an 11 week old will go 5 hours without a feed!!!

theruffles · 19/03/2019 09:56

I think that's doable - we traveled over 4 hours to Devon when my dd was 12 weeks old. We just made sure to take our time and include lots of stops along the way because of the need to give dd a break from her car seat and stop for feeds.
