I knew that it would be normal to have wind with pregnancy but expected things to go back to normal afterwards. It is better, but still not as before iykwim. I asked a friend about it and she said, "Well, everything is a bit looser after childbirth you know."
Has anyone else had this problem? Differences in diet don't seem to matter so far.

I had it terribly for about a month, but that was due to having a c section. And it was REALLY painful!

MummyToSteven · 09/09/2004 08:25

i had it badly for a month or two, then it was OK - had a vaginal delivery. not sure if it might be (yet another!) pelvic floor issue

woodstock · 09/09/2004 13:24

I hate to say it, but this has been going on for a year now. I have an appt. for my yearly next month so I'll ask at that. Maybe I'm a freak of nature?

i'm sure not woodstock. kick off for a referral to a physio at the gynae hospital they will now what best advice to give you re:exercises etc

Distracted · 09/09/2004 21:22

I do remember my pelvic floor not being strong enough to prevent myself from letting rip for a little while after the birth! Remember feeling rather embarrassed when my MIL visited me in hospital

Lowryn · 09/09/2004 21:24

I remember being in the ward and accidentally letting one rip and blaiming it on DD!
It just sort of sneaked out

Spod · 09/09/2004 21:25

are we supposed to get a yearly checkup... as in one year after birth?

gettingthere · 09/09/2004 22:11

I remember after a section a terrible 5 minutes when it just carried on and on...and i was in the supermarket. had to go into the pet food section (cos its largely empty and a bit smelly anyway!)

woodstock · 10/09/2004 03:19

I did have a section so I'm feeling a bit better that I'm not the only one. Maybe just a lazy pelvic floor thing? I guess I'll get out that exercise instruction that everyone is always raving about - Kegels (sp?)

i know that since dd was born i cant seem to hold them in anymore, quite often they steak out as i walk. mv told me to do pelvic floor exercises

coddychops · 13/09/2004 16:55

you mean fanny farts?
me too not hte same there

Twinkie · 13/09/2004 17:06

Am crying with laughter and what is to come - am I to spend my life in the smelly petfood department after giving birth!!

Can't remember being any more parpy with DD than normal - although didn't act ladylike and deny it was me as people had to understand I had no control over stuff down there after just giving birth just like when I sneeze or cough and wee myself now - people have to understand its not my fault!!

Am parping like a goodun at the moment anyway - thought pregnancy was supposed to make you constipated and stuff - well not htis time!!

prettycandles · 14/09/2004 14:29

Since having babies I'm windier upstairs and downstairs, IYSWIM. Downstairs I imagine that it's mostly my pelvic floor being too floppy to hold them in, but why am I windier upstairs? Perhaps the general floppification that causes you wind and indigestion during pregnancy just hasn't gone away.

I'm almost as bad as my dh now, I can often parp or burp on demand . Not really something to be proud of, quite mortifying really .

woodstock · 15/09/2004 03:55

Yup, windier upstairs too. In fact, was having tea with a friend today and out one came! She thought it was hilarious but in that "I'm with you" kind of way" (she has a ds and dd) so I didn't feel so bad. Still wish I had a little more control though.

I parped for Britain for 24 hours after birth. The nurses were encouraging me as it's apparently good to get your bowels going. I couldn't stop laughing but it was sooooo smelly DH kept having to go and stand in the corridor

I had a CS so I don't know if this happens with a conventional delivery.

DelGirl · 19/09/2004 22:30

oh, I am soooo looking forward to giving birth. Thanks. Had better start my pelvic floor exercises now.
