Waters broke so being induced now

Currently 38+3 weeks and I’m in hospital as my waters broke a couple days ago and there’s risks of infections of course!
So they’ve decided to induce me and I’ve literally come to the hospital so unprepared :(
I was always scared of being induced because I heard it’s more painful..
Has anybody been on the same boat as me?
And how long after did you deliver your baby I’m so scared!
Would love to hear your stories!

It can be more painful because your body doesn’t have the same build up with the contractions to get used to the pain but not all inductions are awful!

DC1 I was 2 weeks over and induced. Pessery in at 12:30 down to delivery by 4. It took a long time from there (he was born at 4:48 am) but it was ok. I’ve got a low pain threshold and once if had an epidural it felt great. Sat with my best friend watching keeping up with the Kardashian’s until they said I needed to push. I was lucky and didn’t suffer any tears etc.

DC2 indices at 38 weeks due to continued issues (bleeds) and reduced movements. Took a bit longer to get down to delivery but that’s because it was busy this summer! Waters broken at 6. Used gas and air for as long as possible this time but still had epidural. Caught them by surprise being ready to go and after 6 mins of pushing DS2 was here. Again no tears etc.

Induction has definitely been a positive experience for me. If your worried talk to the midwife down in delivery she’ll explain everything and they’ll be with you every step of the way!

Good luck XX

All mine have been induced, it all went very smoothly and seemed to be the expected amount of pain, and nothing excessive. When you get to pushing, just push like you are pooping. Your body knows how to do that, and its the right muscles. Just think of holding your new baby, sending you hugs

Epidural made mine a much better experience. Couldn’t cope with the drip without one. Good luck!

BlueDotty · 12/03/2019 01:34

With both of mine I was induced on a drip after my waters broke and I failed to go in to labour. It was like going from 0-60 in record speed so I had an epidural. DC1 was 11 hours, DC2 was 16 hours.
Good luck!

I was induced at 38 weeks with my second,my front waters went naturally after the gel (right before I was due to be taken to the labour ward for them to be broken) and contractions started from there, I had an epidural as soon as I got to the labour ward, delivered within an hour and it was a very calm experience thanks to the epidural.

I found the pain of the contractions the same as when I had my first (spontaneous delivery with no pain relief) however I do have very fast deliveries once my waters go.

Good luck!

Thank you ladies!
your stories sound very positive! I’ve just had a gel inserted to help start the contractions I’m starting to feel very light cramping (fingers crossed).
I was also planning on getting the Epidural as I don’t think I can cope with the pain.
The Midwife’s reckon baby will be here today which I still can’t imagine! I hope it will go as smooth as I hoped for!

I was induced at 38 weeks as my waters went. My induction was not a positive experience as I was denied any pain relief. My advice is get the epidural and be very insistent about wanting one (and get your birth partner to be very insistent toI would insist upon one if I was ever induced again!

Dvg · 12/03/2019 06:05

I was induced, just got a morphine injection and it was fine, didn't really feel anything just light cramping. Would never suggest any other pain relief, just morphine and maybe some gas and air for something to put your mind on when in labour,

My boy was pushed out no problem but was really surprised how I didn't feel him coming out was more like being a bit constipated and then finally pooing.

stepbystepdoula · 12/03/2019 06:43

Stay positive, that will be a big help, try not to think, it won't work, or it's going to be more painful, think instead, I'm going to meet my baby today 💚

avocadoincident · 12/03/2019 06:59

How's it going op? I was induced and it it was much better than my 'natural' birth. Baby came 8 hours later. You can do this, you have to!

Firsttimemumma11 · 12/03/2019 08:04

Morning ladies! I had light cramping last night but it all disappeared this morning so the gel obviously didn’t work :(
They’re gonna induce me with a hormonal drip now as there is no other choice.
Feeling nervous heard it’s very painful 😓
I hope it all goes very fast just want this baby out now! Pray for me ❤️❤️

Good luck, I hope it goes well, so exciting to meet your son/daughter soon!

Samind · 12/03/2019 08:08

Morning op. I had my pessary at 10am. Fell out about 1am and had under 2 hour labour 😂 wishing you best of luck today for you and baby. So exciting. 🥰💜

motherofdxughters · 12/03/2019 08:09

I had a drip on my first and last. First baby I managed it with gas and air only. Back to back baby so no break between contractions for six hours. Manageable but painful.

On my third, after two gas and air deliveries, I thought I'd try an epidural. IT IS LIFE CHANGING. I slept through labour, woke up for them to check my cervix, went back to sleep, woke up with a heavy feeling in my pelvis, told them I needed to push, they checked and agreed, two pushes and done.

I think it helped that I already knew how to effectively push from before (push like your constipated - into your bum) but it was the smoothest birth. It's a shame we're done having babies because I would have SO MANY EPIDURALS Grin

Cantwait4summer · 12/03/2019 08:24

Good luck OP ! X
I was induced with DD3 - pessary in 10.30 by 12.30 i was throwing up then contractions came - much more intense & painful than i had with my other 2 but glad DD arrived with 2 hrs !

FirstTimeBumps · 12/03/2019 08:26

My waters broke at 40+3 and I contracted for 32 hours with no regular pattern established. By 30 hours they'd dropped off to every 15 minutes when at their peak they had been every 2-3 minutes but not for long enough to term active labour apparently. Went in for induction after baby pooped and was told due to the merconium they were going straight in heavy handed with the drip. Told them I wanted epidural if that was the case and they agreed to it before I even had a canula in. Alas they then examined me, discovered baby was breech, and I was whisked off to theater. I have however heard stories of people asking is it advisable not to have an epidural and midwives opening doors and saying hear that, that's someone who chose to be induced without the drip. Do what's right for you OP but remember there's no medals for no pain relief. Hope it all goes smoothly from.here on x
