Aching vagina postpartum - please help!

DD was born 11 days ago. I had an episiotomy and a 3rd degree tear.

I’m in agony. My vagina is aching, especially the labia and I feel like my insides are going to drop out. I’ve taken a dihydrocodine and two paracetamol but still hurts. Been having this problem past few evenings.

How long will this last and is there a cure?

A good few weeks. Mines was 2nd degree and stitches burst after couple of days. Put couple drops of lavender oil and tea tree oil on pads. Really helped me. At top middle and bottom of pad.

I can totally relate to the agony though. Couldn't sit or stand etc or turn in bed and felt like bawling my eyes out on top of the sleep deprivation. At bedtime could you put old towel!/incontinence sheet down and not wear any bottoms. Airing really helped too which was effing difficult with post partum bleeding

Thanks!

Ouch. Burst stitches Shock

I do have some oils left over so I’ll give that a go. I’m a bit wary of the no bottoms thing as I’m still clotting a bit. Vom.

I’ll try airing myself during the day though Grin

I found a few drops of lavender oil and sitting in the bath for half an hour really helped me after a second degree tear. Did that for weeks!

I got these cooling pad things to put on your maternity pad, they relieved it somewhat. Boots sell them - called maternity compresses. They also do a cooling spritz spray, though I didn't find it greatly useful but then my stitches and damage were fairly minor so maybe it'd offer you more relief.

Also get midwives to check to rule out infection?? Pop your pads into freezer in sandwich bags and use when required!!

Oh poor you. I remember this. Mine was only 2nd degree I think but I remember feeling worried for weeks when I bent down as it felt like everything would fall out.
I found baths very soothing and yes, ten mins laid on a towel in bed to air dry it all! Keep up with your painkillers regularly. Don't get constipated.

Ah sorry to hear that OP! It’ll had episiotomy and 3rd degree tear with birth of my DD. It’s agony an god dam awful to be quite frank.
Sorry to tell you but I had that awful heavy aching throbbing feeling for a good 6-8 weeks. It left and coincided with when my bleeding stopped and stitches fully healed over. It aches far worse if I was on my feet too much.

REST UP lying in your side as much as you can. Although difficult I know. Also have baths with lavender or tea tree oil drops in like previous poster said. Or if you have or got get antnof that just general sea salt will do. Will encourage heal and keep away infection.

I still get that ache come back fro first day of my period. I don’t even know why. But it feels back like after I’d first delivered again. Been told most likely hormones and the increased blood flow in the area. But I manage it now and it’s gone after the first day.

But other than that it does all get much better. It does take time though. 6 months to feel more normal down there in all honestly. But it does feel normal again eventually 💐
