Haven't a clue?!?

I have anxiety of feeling different and dont like the way has and air or anything else will make me feel. But if I have to be induced will the drips they put you on make you feel spaced out or drunk or anything?? I'm so scared

You’re going to be okay. The pessaries/drips help your cervix soften and open but they don’t tend to make you feel woozy. I found the drip painful and had an epidural which was incredible.

I felt so scared before each of my labours but never once felt scared when they started - I was just absorbed by the task in hand. Good luck. xx

If you don’t like woozy, avoid pethadine too.

I was also induced and agree it was painful but I didn't feel woozy in any way x

The induction drip didn't alter how I felt at all. I also refused gas and air and pethidine for the same reasons. I had an epidural in the end, which also had no effects on how I felt, apart from not being able to feel my lower half.

@AssassinatedBeauty aw really! Thank god im not alone! I have no idea why I have such fear of the drugs used in hospitals! And did your labour go well without the gas and air and drugs up until u got the epidural??

I had morphine based pain relief as a child/teenager and absolutely hated it, felt very vulnerable and not able to say so. That's why I knew I didn't want to have anything like that again if I could avoid it. I'm also ok with pain.

I had a tens machine which was helpful at the beginning. I had an unusual complication which meant that my labour didn't progress and I had an EMCS in the end. Really unlikely to happen to anyone else though, so please don't take my birth as an example!

@AssassinatedBeauty another quick question! When u had your emergency section were u given drugs then that made u feel different??

Section drugs are generally spinal block or epidural. You feel normal. Some emergencies are done under general but that’s really rare. No wooziness really. Although you can feel a bit dizzy if blood pressure drops.

I had a planned section and it was the spinal. Didn't feel whoozy with it but did feel a little sick but that was because my blood pressure dropped a bit x

For me:

Gas and air felt like that moment when you’ve been drinking a bit and don’t feel drunk and then go outside in the fresh air and it hits you. Not a bad feeling.

Standard epidural didn’t feel any different (apart from the pain relief)

Morphine: out of body experience with my legs floating around the room. But felt in control of my brain, eg I knew it was silly and the drugs making me feel that way. Still completely competent to make decision, understand what was going on.

For me the induction drugs - pessary, gels, drip - just made me physically uncomfortable.
Epidural made me incredibly comfortable!
Nothing drunk/spacey or weird with them at all, I felt clear headed and mentally normal.

Dont panic, you may not need anything! I some how managed without!

@mumm321 this is exactly how I feel, I'm 37+5 now and have said no gas and air/Pethidine in my birthing plan. I would rather an epidural. I really hope your labour goes smoothly for you, try not to panic. You will know what's best for you when the time comes xx
