Sooooo chances are about 95% I'll give birth on the way to hospital.
Any experience of giving birth in unusual or unplanned places?
Would love to hear stories

Why are you likely to give birth on the way to the hospital?!

ReaganSomerset · 18/02/2019 22:11

Yes, why? I have become jaded and suspicious recently due to the number of reporters on here looking for a cheap story.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/02/2019 22:16

95% is a very specific number. Who gave you these chances?

Can't you just opt for a home birth?

randomsabreuse · 18/02/2019 22:16

There is a layby locally where lots of babies from a particular town are born - usually in ambulances. Notorious with local ambulance service. Rural county, MLUs closed and if you live in the wrong place you might well be 1 hr plus driving time from any hospital and some people have shorter labours than that...

BiscuitDrama · 18/02/2019 22:18

Would you plan a homebirth then maybe?

Echomama · 19/02/2019 09:22

95%is just a gut feeling, like when you say your x% sure this or that will or won't happen?
First Labour we made it to the hospital, got measured got sent to Labour and was pushing as soon as I got there.
This time we're further away on windier roads.
Gbs + so would like to be at the hospital to monitor baby because like the first time, didn't get chance for antibiotics. That and the other half refuses to let me ruin his bed or the carpets hehehehe
Aannd the midwives are very pushy against it with babe being 10 percentile on growth.

Just go earlier then. You may have to wait in the waiting room if you're not dilated enough to admit, but at least you'll be on-site.

Moonflower12 · 19/02/2019 10:32

I was an hour and a half with my first from the first twinge till her arrival.
So with my 2nd I felt like you- 15 hours that time!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/02/2019 18:33

Why would you ruin the bed? Hire a birthing pool or cover the mattress with rubber sheets.

Helspopje · 19/02/2019 18:36

I was 42 mins start to finish with dad1
23 min with ds
They admitted me and broke my waters not in labour w dd2. Born 2min 20s later

There are ways

Waggily · 19/02/2019 20:04

Just head in as soon as labour starts. I had a 5 hour labour with my first and a 2 hour (officially 16 minutes) with my second. I rang the hospital as soon as it started, arrived at 10cms and pushed her out shortly afterwards. Didn’t even make it out of the assessment unit. Make sure you have your bag packed and handy then just go!
