POST Labour snacks

Last time I didn't have much in my bag. A few soft ginger biscuits and the only food the hospital could find- A tiny chunk of cheese.

I remember being starving and having to wait for breakfast, which I didn't really eat because I didn't like anything and just wanting something filling.

What post labour non mouth drying, non chocolate, non junky snacks did you have /wish you had?

I ate a large packet of haribo in about 30 seconds, minutes after my last baby was born. Doesn’t with fit the non-junk request but they were perfect. For later, we Had some little salt and vinegar crackers that were nice and savoury among all the biscuits.

I can’t remember exactly what I had last time but I remember it was a lot! Think had lots of cereal bars and wrapped stuff that could stay in a hospital bag for weeks into the lead up. In my head though I’d like some really fancy bits from M&S like some lovely sandwiches, fruit, nuts, crackers, cheeses. But would obviously not be able to get some of this in advance. I’m pretty sure I only actually ended up having a few sips of lucozade and then just grabbing a pizza on the way home.

Waitrose do nice individual flap jacks - I had one of those in my bag along with a bag of cashews, some oatcakes, banana, bottles of water and some sugary sweets for energy - flumps, chocolate eclairs and some mints!

Whatififall · 16/02/2019 18:13

Stupidly I didn’t pack any but when the midwife brought me tea & toast it was the best meal I’ve ever had

3babyxx · 16/02/2019 19:50

I sent my baby father to get me a Nando's 😂 I was starvinggggg

widgetbeana · 16/02/2019 20:32

Crisps! And pate!

I ended up staying in withs poorly baby, the hospital had endless toast so I ended up with pate, Nutella and cheese in large quantities.

HoustonBess · 16/02/2019 20:44

I reckon dried fruit is a good bet - doesn't go off in your bag and good for post-baby constipation too.

I got really into mango jerky stuff after DD was born - they sell it Aldi's and health food shops. It's super chewy and satisfying. Dates would be similar, I guess there's a reason why Muslims break their fast with them in Ramadan!

Echomama · 16/02/2019 21:27

I've got a few dried fruit bits, mostly for dd to munch on because I can't have it with my too sensitive teeth 😭 wish our aldi had the dried pineapple, I'm a sucker for it!
Nuts will be going in the bag and I've got some breakfast type bars with the filling for less mouth drying effect.
I just remember wanting something super savoury--the idea of having a bag of sweets makes me want to vom lately. might have to send the dh out at 4am to fetch something from a 24h shop! Hehehe
Pate is a good idea if we end up staying! Never thought of it before!

Came on to say tea and toast - best meal of my life and see @Whatififall has beaten me to it!!
I have never been so hungry or so happy.

melissasummerfield · 16/02/2019 21:33

@whatififall i agree, that post birth tea and toast is the best thing ever!

I dont even like tea Grin

le42 · 17/02/2019 18:28

I felt so dehydrated for me it was fruit and smoothies - luckily our hospital was next to a Pret so my partner could get me fresh fruit. I also had some McDonald’s fries 😂

M0reGinPlease · 17/02/2019 18:55

I took loads of those Graze snackpots, some ready made jelly and a bar of chocolate which I remembered at about 3am and was all over my bag like a rabid animal looking for it! My MIL brought me in an amazing fruit hamper which I really enjoyed.

Mumstheword1987 · 20/02/2019 21:57

I only took junk lol but hospital gave me toast after then went home with 4 hours with 2nd baby
First time again was toast then breakfast was toast and yoghurt

Eatmycheese · 20/02/2019 22:48

The tea and toast is rank but it’s also amazing. Three times in my entire life I’ve had tea with sugar in all after my babies were born.

Salt and vinegar or ready salted crisps
Lucozade
Peppermint aero
Snack packs of salted crackers
Water
Sweeties of any kind
My mum’s homemade cheese and salad sandwiches wrapped in foil and a bit warm from the car 😂

This makes me feel a bit teary for some crap reason, I don’t want any more babies but writing this has reminded me of that utterly surreal, but magical time just after having them

FartnissEverbeans · 21/02/2019 11:29

I sent DH to get me a McDonald’s

SequinsDress · 26/02/2019 17:16

After my second birth I was discharged so quickly that my post labour "snack" was a cheese and onion sandwich, beef hula hoops, and some olives... all picked up from the CoOp on the way home!

I also had some twiglets and "Eat Natural" bars packed in my bag.
First birth I packed similar, and also cheese oatcakes, pepperami, etc.

I got toast and jam after my first birth (yum) second birth I got toast and no jam, and it was very dry! Second birth was "better" but the toast left a lot to be desired!
