Bowel problems

I had my son nearly 4 weeks ago and had a forceps delivery and episiotomy. Sadly I had a serious infection and the wound completely broke down. Sadly I had to have surgery to remove the infected tissue and the wound has to heal naturally. I was originally very stressed about this, however I am now more worried about incontinence. Every time I feel the need to poo I have to run to the toilet. I know that it is still early says but I am paranoid that this doesn’t get better. I can’t cope with having an open wound to look after and being incontinent :( I can’t leave my house as I’m paranoid about having an accident. I’m so upset that this is happening to me. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds x

I can understand how distressing this must be for you. Incontinence and urgency can be a side effect for some at this stage though is more commonly urinary. Unfortunately some women do have issues with bowels too especially given your experience.

My advice would be to discuss it with your GP at your 6 week post natal check. If it's still an issue then you need referring on. Have you been able to start your pelvic floor exercises? That may help. Check out the NHS squeezy app.
