Just wanted to share this amazing story

My friend gave birth to one of her twins a few days ago after her waters broke. Her cervix is now closed and the other twin is still in there going strong (non-identical so they have their own placentas and amniotic sacs).

Apparently it's pretty unusual but has been known - normally the other twin is born 2 or 3 days later but this has been over a week now.

Isn't that incredible?!

I've not red the whole thread so this may already have been asked. Does her hubbie get 2 lots of paternity leave seeing as the babies weren't born on the same day??

It's an amazing stoery though, I'd never heard of that happening before!!!

whizzz · 14/09/2004 18:14

bump, very interested to know what is happening here

wishingchair · 18/10/2004 11:26

Sorry I've not got back!! Both twins are doing fine. The second was born nearly 2 weeks later and was nearly a pound bigger. They're now being fed expressed breast milk (which apparently contains additional proteins than breast milk for full term new borns because her body knows they need something extra ... truly incredible) and are focusing on putting on the pounds. They do keep forgetting to breathe (apparently normal for premature babies) so that's an obvious worry because then the heart rate drops etc. But all things considered, they're doing fantastic.

Thanks for all your good wishes - I'll pass them on to her

That's great news, wishingchair, thanks for the update. Hope they continue to progress well, and massive congratulations to their mum for being able to express milk in such stressful circumstances. What a heroine!
