Hi All

I'm booked in for an ELCS on Wednesday for my first child and wondered if there was anything in particular i should be eating from now until then?!

Also I'm an afternoon session therefore I'm told to eat a light breakfast before 7am - is that just a bowl of cereal and toast?!xx

I'm no doctor but my instinct would be anything that will give you energy and top up vitamins + minerals and help you recover faster.

Things like bananas, oats, honey.

To be honest, I'd just go for the best adult only restaurant and gorge on whatever will make you happy as it will be a while until you get a date night again! Goodluck!!

I'm booked in on Tuesday! I'm drinking banana smoothies with some spinach, chia seeds and PB, just things to help with digestion. Trying to keep away from things which might back me up as I don't want to go into surgery already constipated. I'm taking a (very mild) stool softener. Dinner is thinks like steamed broccoli with carrot and sweet potato mash, steak and sautéed mushrooms. Trying to give my iron levels a boost. I can eat until 9.30 Tuesday morning so planning on going to a gorgeous cafe (with a big play area for DD) for a nice final brunch as a family of three.
I am taking an extra prenatal daily and I've also started a good probiotic (DD and I ended up with terrible thrush for 5 weeks after delivery last time and it was very hard to shift).
Trying to listen to my cravings and keep things as healthy as possible (but also succumbing to quite a bit of ice cream too 😬).
Good luck!

Lots of iron but also lots of food that’s easily digestible- maybe drink peppermint tea in advance? I would take peppermint oil with you, I had ELCS 10 days ago and the trapped wind pain was worse than the actual cut - I’ve never known anything like it! Peppermint oil is good as you can add to cold water, at my hospital it was strangely difficult to get hot water

And take snacks with you - I was starving after the surgery it had been about 18 hours since I ate. Lots of fruit for after, smoothies and cereal bars I ate

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Rest and relax.
A life changing event is about to happen Thanks

Thanks everyone!!

I'm actually addicted to fruit at the moment so that'll be easy enough!!

@le42 I've got peppermint oil capsules as a friend recommended them after hers and arnica tablets for internal bruising!!

I was thinking on Tuesday evening either going out for dinner with DH before the big event or have a nice relaxing night in with our favourite takeaway xx

Just make sure you’re not constipated, have lots of fibre etc. Speaking from experience the worst part of it all was constipation afterwards. Like giving birth but with your stomach muscles stitched together!

Whatever you feel like!

I’ve had two c-sections and had a great recovery with both. Just eat what your normally eat. The day before I would avoid anything nothing too greasy or junky but I would have a lovely adult meal. Truly honestly I don’t think it’s necessary to do this kind of drastic preparation for days before a c-section. Internal bruising, seriously? Has your midwife or doctor recommended this? I hope you haven’t spend a lot of money on c-section prep foods and supplements.

ComeMonday Uurr, internal bruising is pretty likely after having several layers of skin and fascia cut open? Not to mention the removal of an organ she grew to sustain the pregnancy. My stomach was horrifically tender after having DD (vaginal delivery) and that's because you have an open wound roughly the size of a dinner plate internally. She's not talking about any sort of drastic preparation, just pretty normal questions about how supplements/diet might but her on a better road to recovery than doing nothing.
