Paying someone to do perineal massage?!

I went to a pregnancy massage last night and my masseuse suggested that she could do perineal massage if I was interested closer to birth Shock
Has anyone payed anyone to do this for them? It's my first pregnancy... so not sure if this is common.... but thought it was a bit odd....

I don’t think this sounds so weird. Women’s health physios spend most of their time up someone’s vag or bum hole massaging something.

Don’t start it until 36 weeks. I understand it doesn’t do a lot in terms of reducing tears but can prepare you for the sensation of crowing and so you perceive less pain.

*crowning not crowing, but maybe it can reduce your crowing....

Ain't no stranger massaging me there! Ask your partner to do it.

Is that even legal?!

No massage here, ten natural births and no tear /stitches.
No stretch marks either.
Baby oil on wet skin, no posh creams necessary ime.

Do you start the arnica before birth or after for healing?

I did the massage (or rather DP did!) religiously during first pregnancy - couldn't push baby out, so ended up with a cut to make space.

Second pregnancy, didn't bother. Partially due to lack of time compared to first pregnancy, and partly because I didn't feel I got any benefit from it first time. I did tear second time, but not badly and actually had no idea it had happened until the midwife examined me.

On this basis I definitely wouldn't be paying anyone to do the massage for me! And I do think it's a bit of a weird service to offer TBH. Although I guess may be useful for some women who can't manage to do it themselves and don't have a partner who is willing to assist.
