What is being induced like? Any tips to bring labour on natural??

This is my first baby so have no idea what to expect labour wise 😬
I'm currently 40+2 and consultant led. I saw the consultant last week and he said he will only let me go over by one week, so he has booked me for Indy room this coming Monday 4/2/19 and I'm really scared...

The leaflet they have given me explains I will have a pessary for 24 hours, if the cervix doesn't become favorable o will have another pessary for a further 6 hours and if still nothing c-section. Ive has friends have the hormone drip and they say it's awful and makes labor really painful 😣
My Mum had to have two lots of gel inserted for my brother and said she couldn't tell difference in pain from 2x natural (but the two natural were both horrific, back to back and I was a very traumatic forceps delivery) so not sure if that's why to her there wasn't no difference in pain.

Anyhow - I'm accepting the fact I will do what it takes to get my boy here safely, but wanted to know what to roughly expect with an induction from other people's experience.

Any tips for getting things going natural? Again from experience that has actually worked? I have t minus 4 days to get things going if I can 😬😬😬

I walked a lot and then after 2 days of bouncing on yoga ball my waters broke (although could have been a coincidence)! Good luck!!
