Hi all.

Just got discharged after have 2nd baby via emergency c-section How long did you wear the support stockings for after wards?

Its not something I thought about asking when I was discharged and my DH picked up our LB from school and one of our friends said that she had to wear them for 6 weeks

Thanks

I definitely didn't come home with them on and was discharged after 48 hrs with DS2. I think once you're mobile, they're no longer needed.

@Buffy81 - I totally forgot too, I had my section on Tues and came home yesterday. I'm still wearing them but didn't know whether I should? I figure it can only help so why not? Midwife is coming today so I'll ask x

I've had two c sections and both of the advices were at least 2 weeks. Just because you're out of bed doesn't mean you're mobile! I noticed as the weeks went on the swelling going down.

A minimum of 10 days - unless you were on antenatal blood thinning injections, then it’s 6 weeks. It’s not about how mobile you are. It’s because pregnancy and childbirth make your blood more “sticky” (it’s one of the things that stops you bleeding too much when your placenta is born), then when you add in surgery which tells your body to get busy clotting (just like when you cut your finger but on a much bigger scale)...it means you’re at a much higher risk of DVT, blood clots on your lungs etc.

I had them for 6 weeks plus blood thinning injections for 10 days after DC1. Although after a month l left them off unless I was at home (it was summer and a heatwave!)

Thanks guys. Will ask the midwife when she comes today like a pp is also going to do. I also have injections to do for 7 more days

I have the injections too x

RandomWok · 31/01/2019 11:42

My discharge midwife said minimum of 6 weeks but the longer the better.

Yakadee · 31/01/2019 13:31

Just had my midwife over and she said 6 weeks x

le42 · 31/01/2019 14:43

Wow I had no idea, I took them straight off when I got home and showered. I don’t have any swelling at all and I’m moving around all the time. Is this what the blood thinning injections are for? I assumed midwife would have told me if I was supposed to keep wearing them??

BikeRunSki · 31/01/2019 14:47

I wore them to leave the hospital, and took them off when I got home. It was s heatwave!! I made a big effort to move around, walk, wiggle my toes etc.

TiggeryBear · 31/01/2019 14:54

I took mine off to shower about 6 hours(?) After my C-section & didn't put them back on. Putting regular socks on was tricky enough 😂

Honeybee79 · 31/01/2019 18:32

I was told by the midwives who visited at home that as I was mobile they could come off.

Just had my 3rd section 3 weeks ago and my hospital (King's in London) has stopped using them.
