Small first baby, big second baby?

So my first was 6lb2oz when born. But they thought she had restricted growth from week 36 due to a small fundus height, she grew a little but not a lot and stuck in her 10th% line after dropping from 50th. She was also very low with her bum engaged (successful ecv, and she engaged right away) so she never get higher than an inch or so above my belly button

This babe (35w) is still on 50th% but is head down, but not very low and has always got a bum right under my ribs, and I'm larger than I was full term with my first!

Terrified that this one is going to be 7lbs + and huge, no idea how I'm going to get it out and return to 'normal' ! 😂

Anybody had a much larger second baby? Or had measurements completely off and ended up having a small second baby too?

7lb + still isn’t huge though!

Mine were 10lbers, you’ll be fine!

OllyBJolly · 22/01/2019 21:48

First was 7lb 7oz, second was 9lb 12oz. Second was easy peasy - 20 minute labour and no drugs, didn't even have time to get undressed never mind reach for the gas and air! I was actually laughing as she was born because the situation was so absurd. I could fit my size 10 jeans two days later.

mnahmnah · 22/01/2019 21:49

My second was 10lb 11oz and pushed him out fine, no issues. I had a neat bump, measured spot on throughout. And yes, everything returned to normal after! Issues can happen with any size mum or baby. Every chance it will go straightforward for you so try to be positive Smile

6lb 5oz for my first and 8lb 5oz for my second! Both born at 38+6
Was worried my third would followbthe pattern but was 9lb exactly. He was born at 41+6

SPR1107 · 22/01/2019 21:51

7lbs isnt even the average newborn weight.

8lb 3oz for first here, and my second already way above all the centile lines on the chart at 28 weeks pregnant!

No matter how much bigger than your first, it'll make its way out one way or another just fine I'm sure.

Endofrelationship · 23/01/2019 00:51

First was 6lb 6 and 16th centile. Measured normal throughout pregnancy.

This one measured 50th centile at my scan at 33weeks but came out 11th centile.

For what it's worth, my 6lber screwed up my downstairs and it never went back to normal. It's more about the labour and less about the size.

My labour with my DD was super fast and easy
I know 7lbs is still tiny, but I am only tiny myself, I don't know how I've got any room left for it to grow!
I joked about it properly being a bursting out like alien delivery - as the days go on the more likely it seems!
Just terrified I'll end up with it being stuck I guess! Going to be reading up emcs just in case, because I'll be damned if they come near me with anything to force it out through my lady bits!

8.12
8
9.03.

Last one was the easiest birth of the lot.

A pound distributed across a babies body really doesn't make it much bigger in terms of how it effects the size of baby coming out of you. If the pound was all on the head then maybe you'd have grounds for concern. But that's unlikely ;-)

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 23/01/2019 15:51

First was 6lb born at 37 weeks, second was 8lb 6 born at 39+1.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/01/2019 17:07

Dc1 was 6Ibs 9 oz (boy) and dc2 was 7Ibs 15 oz (girl). Both born at 39+1. I had a very similar diet/exercise/fairly low weight gain across both pregnancies. Both were very long with giant heads (which is why both were emergency sections).

My tiny grandmothers both delivered a bunch of 10 - 12 Ibers at home with zero issues.

To echo an earlier poster, I think it's head size which is the issue. Both mine have had bigger than 90th percentile heads and that just doesn't seem to want to work with my pelvis.

NatureGal · 24/01/2019 21:32

Dc1 was 5lb 2oz, Dc2 was 5lb exactly and Dc3 was 4lb10oz, all precipitous labours despite dc3 being induced with no complications. Pregnant with Dc4 and not sure what to expect this time. I was huge with Dc2 and 3 as well.

7lb 10 first and 10lb 4 second with a head on the 96th gentile - we had no idea! It was absolutely fine and I hypo birthed with my second and only needed gas and air. I did have an episiotomy (totally painless with local) but I had to have that for my first as well, so no related to the big baby. Try not to worry about the size Smile

Racecardriver · 28/01/2019 14:49

My grandmother did but she had gestational diabetes the second time. Strangely enough her second birth was much much easier though. No tearing and about fifteen minutes of active labour.

annlee3817 · 28/01/2019 22:54

Being someone who is also petite, I had a massive bump, it just protruded out and looked ridiculous. My DD was 7lbs 10oz and the labour was absolutely fine.

6.13 and 8.0 here. Both ventouse although 2nd was easier. DC2 was measuring big (actually long) and induced at 38+3 while DC1 came of her own accord at 38+4. DC2 has a bigger head and was an epesiotomy which is better than the 2nd degree tear DC1 made...

3out · 29/01/2019 07:26

7lb is v small.

3out · 29/01/2019 07:30

DC1 was 8lb 3 and was a long labour. DC2 shot out in 20 minutes and was 8lb 13. DC3 was 10lb3 and took an hour. First labour was by far the worst.
