Been cramping with backache since 3am! How can you get some rest?

Just need to talk,

Hubby has gone for some shuteye, feels guilty leaving me with my contractions and I feel sorry for him because there little he can do right now.
I've kinda been in slow labour since Tuesday. Lost my plug Tuesday, and had nightly practice contractions on and off thru out the week. This morning was the same only they never went away. Baths and heat compresses works well but kinda stretch out the contractions a little but the pain relief is worth it.
Tbh it just feels like the bad period pains I had in my teens before I learn how to manage the pain and adapt my diet.
Hospital wants me to stay at home for a few more hours until I can't manage on my own. And I'm currently roughly 4 mins apart and have had heavy pink discharge all day!!

Just wondering how I can get some rest while contracting, as when I tried earlier in the day, I could feel my body tense up and it caused me a ton of pain and feeling of weakness.... I considered sleeping in the bath if I didn't fear I'd drown!

At 4 minutes apart I'd be taking myself to the hospital! Maybe overly cautious.. good luck x

SparklingNarwhal · 21/01/2019 06:19

I went the hospital, I was only 1cm dilated so they sent me home, I've been in the bath for hours now and I've noticed the baby has gone quiet! Getting a tad worried.

You need to ring. Explain that you aren't feeling any movement. Now. I'm sure the baby is fine but they can do a trace for you.

ReaganSomerset · 21/01/2019 06:24

If baby has stopped moving go to the PAU immediately.

Madeline88 · 21/01/2019 06:24

If you can’t feel the baby, you should go back in! I found at the start that lying down, hot water bottles, baths slowed labour down, walking and moving around sped it up.

whothefuckhas5children · 21/01/2019 06:25

Agree with PP. If baby is quiet then ring. No point in taking chances at this stage.

whothefuckhas5children · 21/01/2019 06:25

Actually don't ring just go in.

Jaxtellerswife · 21/01/2019 06:33

Yep, get going and phonevon the way. Good y

Jaxtellerswife · 21/01/2019 06:33

Good luck

HopeGarden · 21/01/2019 06:36

Yes, go get things checked out straight away as baby’s gone quiet.

Good luck.

Fiddie · 21/01/2019 08:35

Hope you're in and well on the way by now.

SparklingNarwhal · 21/01/2019 11:02

How are you now, OP? Flowers

SparklingNarwhal · 21/01/2019 15:43

Last night was bad, had sweep. And when I got home I couldn't sit, only stand.
After I managed lay down and get a power nap today everything has kinda slowed down :/
Kinda disappointed, gonna go for a walk to hopefully start it all up again.

We're on day 5 of non stop contractions. Getting a tad fed up. Sleeping is difficult, the nausea makes eating hard ... Feel frustrated, I read a fair amount of the NHS leaflets, and the class but had no idea the latent stage could long so long!!!
Feel my permanent 'upset tummy' for the past 3 months maybe have effected my energy stores :/

OP posts:
ReaganSomerset · 23/01/2019 13:10

My latent stage was just over a week long. The cervix can close as well as open, and it will do that if you're stressed or don't feel safe. You need to get the oxytocin flowing. I did my favourite films, foods, lots of cuddles. Watch comedies as the laughter is good for the oxytocin. Getting frustrated will only slow things down more. If you've got a birthing ball, get on it and rotate your hips in a circle. This intensified my contractions because it moves the baby further down into the pelvis, putting more pressure on the cervix, but I can't speak for what it will do to you.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/01/2019 16:07

Walk, one foot on the pavement, one on the road, stairs sideways can help too.

Hope things get moving soon.

Update!!

My little boy Rhys came in at 8lb 3oz, 1:15am 25th January!
What a little star, he had a rough labor, fortunately we had some great labour staff on hand that could spot the danger signs. He basically had the chord wrapped around his neck AND in a knot that could of been deadly if his destress on labour wasn't spotted.
My labor was unproductive because everytime I contracted, he was destressed, but the tests only checked before and after! It was only when after 5 days of going back and forth they admitted, changed me to high risk due to the 'oddness' of labour and found out.
Also managed to breastfed with the first few hours, super chuffed about that!!!

Been cramping with backache since 3am! How can you get some rest?
