Husband has a bad cold and I'm due any day!

My husband has come down with a really bad cold and I'm due next Thursday. We're quite confident it's not flu thank god, but unlike most men he just gets on with colds but this one has totally floored him!

I'm terrified of going into labour whilst he's poorly and having to do it on my own or him not being able to hold the baby. Anyone ever had experience of this?

I'm also terrified of catching the cold, anyone given birth whilst full of one as well?

TIA x

Try not to worry,it's unlikely that he'll be poorly in 4 days time touch wood Flowers

You could have another 3 weeks before you have the baby; the chances are it’s fine.

DS1 gave me a D&V bug when I was 41 weeks pregnant with DS3. I’m not going to lie, it was the worst I’ve ever felt (and vomiting into the shower on all 4’s at 41 weeks pregnant because your 4 year old is throwing up into the toilet is not fun at all..) but it was fine

I have. My symptoms seemed to disappear during labour. And, although I was full of it afterwards, I didn't feel half as rough.

Obviously I was worried about baby catching it, but apart from a few little sneezes, they were absolutely fine.

He'll just have to man up won't he? Who takes priority, you and baby or him with his sniffles?

Drama87 · 20/01/2019 16:19

Did you even read my post singlenotsingle? It's not about him "manning up", it's about will he be able to be with me when I go into labour. Or if I catch it and go into labour with a cold.

I had a truly awful sinusy type cold when I went into labour, the worst I’ve had in years - I mean, it was so bad I hadn’t been able to get out of bed for a few days. As soon as labour started the symptoms just disappeared. The body is clever like that. You’ll be fine. I promise. And DH’a adrenaline will kick in too. Put it out of your mind and focus on relaxing. Your body will just take over when it’s time to meet your little one!

In the week before I had dd3 I had a horrible cold, blocked painful ears etc. I even went sobbing to my GP (I was 41+wks at this point) because they were inducing me on Saturday and I felt so awful. He gave me ear drops.

Anyway still felt pretry crap up until labour when my symptoms did disappear. Or I had bigger fish to fry, I don't know. I'm pretty sure I felt better afterwards too.

EverythingNow · 20/01/2019 16:33

Hope your husband feels better soon too!

Ffsnosexallowed · 20/01/2019 16:35

Fgs - it's only a cold. Yes he can be with you in labor with a cold and if you have one, well you'll have one. No Biggie!

Drama87 · 20/01/2019 16:59

Thanks for all the nice responses, (others can sod off Grin ) you've made me feel better!

He has A COLD. Of course he can be with you or hold the baby.

baabaamoomooneigh · 20/01/2019 17:14

Why would a cold stop him holding a baby? And why would it stop him being with you in labour? Confused I genuinely confused.

If he recently lost a leg I'd still expect him to be there and hold the baby.

ToastyFingers · 20/01/2019 17:27

It's a cold, of course he can be with you in labour. Fwiw I had a stinking cold when I have birth to dd2 and I didn't even notice. Being in incredible pain is quite distracting.

FartnissEverbeans · 21/01/2019 13:25

I’d talk to the dr. I’m sure it’s fine for him to be in the labour ward with you but I wouldn’t want someone with a cold/potentially flu near a newborn baby.

Have he and you both had your flu vaccinations? Could he maybe wear a mask and just stick to strict personal hygiene, with lots of hand washing etc?
