Anyone gone into labour before planned cs?

As the title says anyone gone into labour before their elective c section?
I’ve finally had mine signed off maternal request c section after problems following a previous vb.
Section booked at 39+1, they have a policy of no earlier than 39 weeks without a medical reason so an earlier one isn’t really an option.
But now I’m worried about labouring before my date!
I was overdue with my first so don’t have a history of earlier deliveries but they have warned me it could still happen.
They said if it does they will possibly be able to do the section if I get to hospital ASAP, but it may not be possible depending on how advanced labour is/if the theatre is free.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone and what the outcome was.
Thanks.

Yes, me. I went into labour the day before, phoned the hospital to say I was coming in. They put me on the monitor for a bit as the consultant didn't believe I was in labour. A midwife examined me and found I was 7cm and everything happened quickly after that!

So did you get your section orange?
Sorry I wasn’t sure if you meant it happened quickly as in you delivered or as in they prepped you for theatre and did the section?

Yes and I still had a caesarean as there were medical reasons for it. I had to wait a number of hours though and labour progressed quickly so it was an emergency in the end!

Worried about this too, 37 weeks and due section around 39. Switching between wanting baby out ASAP and wanting to hang in there!

Yes, me too!

I had a CS section planned due to problems I had with my first DC.

No. 2 decided to make an appearance about 10 days before my elcs - my waters broke and she appeared just over an hour later. It was very quick and we only just made it to hospital. There was no time for anything but gas and air.

It all felt a bit 'er ... what just happened?!' but on reflection it was absolutely fine. I wasn't cut or grazed and DD was equally surprised but fine too. I recovered much quicker than with my first too.

In short, pretty scary at the time but the midwives were utterly amazing and looked after me so well. I was in safe hands. I've weirdly got fond memories of the whole thing! Smile

Yes, two days before.

I went in as my waters had gone and whilst there I went into very fast labour (2nd child) The midwife didn't really believe me and told me to stop making a fuss or I wouldn't be seen to at all (!)

Long story short I had her naturally as there was no time at all and it was all fine in the end but I was terrified.

I was meant to have a section due to damage from first birth (physical and mental) and she was predicted to be big, and was huge in the end. Luckily all went v well

I've gone into labour twice prior to my booked in dates. Both times I had my csection without any problem at a nice leisurely pace, unlike my first emergency one. It'll all be documented in your mat notes and all they usually do is check you haven't changed your mind.

Good luck Smile

With DC2 I was due to see my consultant at 35 weeks to book my section date for 39 weeks but as luck would have it; my waters broke that very morning. I was admitted but nothing much happened until the early hours of 35+2 when I started having contractions so DS was delivered by C-section at about lunchtime. It was all quite a calm & pleasant (as much as these things can be) experience.

Orangepear · 08/01/2019 20:03

Yes sorry I meant they prepped me quickly and matched blood etc and took me to theatre. They asked if I was sure I still wanted a cs as I was so far along and was labouring easily. I am pleased I had a cs though, I wasn't prepared to risk more damage and the recovery was many months quicker than my vb.

Littleraindrop15 · 08/01/2019 20:07

Am so worried about this as well!! Still just 25 weeks but Ive been waiting to speak with the consultant to ask this question.

I had a breech no one would listen to me ! I kept saying it's his head up here not his bum .... then as I have a heart condition I told my consultant and he demanded I had one last scan at 38 weeks because of my heart issue 😁 .. he was VERY breech he couldn't have tucked himself further up if he tried , my planned c section was at 39 +1 I didn't go into labour before however I was terrified I would everytime I went for a wee etc I was scared to push 😂😂😂 .

Just have everything ready in the car to go just incase xx Good luck

I was booked in for an elcs following a difficult birth with my eldest (episiotomy and 3rd degree tear that required reconstructive surgery a few years later). I went into labour at 36 wks with my dd and it all happened so quickly that there wasn't time for a section. It was scary but the midwife and consultant really looked after me, although I needed another episiotomy it was much smaller and I had no problems healing afterwards. On reflection I'm pleased it worked out like that and healed a lot quicker than if I had had the cs.

Yes, DC2 did not want to follow my plan of a nice relaxed wait on the labour ward. My waters broke in the middle of the night before I was scheduled for an ELCS.

That meant I had contractions to deal with until the morning team came in and I was just put straight to the front of the queue. If my contractions had been closer together, they would have put me in for an EMCS but they just said to come straight in for monitoring.

My consultant and consultant MW had said that if it happened, to be really clear that I was booked in for an ELCS and that the staff would contact them as was all in my file. My consultant MW ditched everything he was doing to come in with me in the end. He was amazing.

Me. I went into labour 12 hours before my planned CS (had a surprise prem 'planned' one the first time round due to complications). Arrived at the hospital to be told I was 4cms and given I had my CS the next morning, what did I want to do? I actually decided for trying labour as I never had the chance with my eldest. I really appreciated the way I was given a choice with no judgement as you seem to read so many horror stories.

Yellowcar2 · 08/01/2019 21:04

Yes. After 2 emergency c sections I had one planned for my third. Like you was booked for 39+1 for the same reasons. I went in to labour when my waters broke 3 days before this. I phoned the hospital and made my way in. Doctor examined me and everything was fine explained that there were a few emergencies before me, so I had an epidural was monitored for a few hours and then went in for my c section once the emergencies were finished.

Cyclingforcake · 08/01/2019 21:04

Yup. Waters broke about 10 days before my ELCS. We phoned labour ward and were told to come in. They asked what I wanted to do and I was in theatre a couple of hours later. (Has to wait for a proper emergency to be out) The same calm relaxed natural ELCS I was planning but just on a different day!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/01/2019 01:29

Yep. Went into labour the night before (39 weeks exactly). They did push for me to try and deliver vaginally but given that dc1 got stuck at full dilation and couldn't be pushed/pulled out with forceps and I was contracting in my back again with a baby who wasn't back to back, I said no.

Ended up with a very chilled amazing semi emergency section at 6 am.

ThePastafarian · 11/01/2019 14:01

Breech baby, section booked for week 39 - waters went 36+5. I'd been told to go straight in if there were any signs of labour starting so I did. The initial plan was to admit me overnight and do section next day, but by the time that actually happened I was starting to get strong, regular contractions so they bumped me up the queue. Very calm and chilled, no one tried to persuade me to have a go a natural delivery, just got on with it!
