I need tips to pass wind

I had an elective c section yesterday and have a sweet baby girl. I lost loads of bloods during the surgery so have been told to stick to a liquid diet until I can pass wind. I’ve tried peppermint tea, chewing gum but nothing seems to work. I have horrible gas pains as well. I’ve only started walking tiny distances as I was feeling quite faint till this morning. My iron levels are low but most likely won’t be receiving a transfusion. Please has anyone experienced this, any pearls of wisdom?

I don't know about post c section but when I was pregnant getting down on all fours with my bum in the air was the fastest way to shift wind

IRememberSoIDo · 03/01/2019 17:34

Not after a section but had a laparoscopy earlier this year and had awful wind especially in my shoulder, sitting bolt upright was pretty much the only thing that helped. I also found drinking lucozade helped as it created more wind even though my mum had said not to drink anything fizzy. Congratulations and hope you feel better soon. I've had awfully low iron over the years so take it easy too.

Can you have a dip dab lolly
The wind hurts so much I know

Bebe03 · 03/01/2019 17:37

Peppermint oil is the best, any health food shops stock it x

stepbystepdoula · 04/01/2019 08:42

Mintex capsules, they help also message gently on tummy area in a clockwise direction. Hope it helps 💚

Foxyscarf · 04/01/2019 08:44

I'm sorry I have no helpful advice but just wanted to say I feel for you, it's awful isn't it?

cindersrella · 04/01/2019 08:52

Try lying on you left side of you can, I have never had a section so I'm not sure what movement is like. Also colpermin tablets really help. They are peppermint and work for people with IBS most of the time. You can also purchase over the counter

jemimapud · 04/01/2019 08:58

I’m not sure if fresh fruit juice would help?
In the same way it would help your bowels?

LemonBreeland · 04/01/2019 08:59

I have always found head down and bum up in the air the best way too. Congratulations on your baby girl.

chocatoo · 04/01/2019 09:01

Warm bath, if you can face it, will do the trick.

HoustonBess · 04/01/2019 09:03

I always find that putting both hands on the floor (or bath/chair if that's easier) and swinging one leg out backwards then through towards my stomach helps - if that makes sense.

Not sure how feasible that is with your wound but basically working your muscles a bit will get things moving.

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 04/01/2019 09:08

Feel for you OP. Trapped wind is so painful. Rennie deflatine and windeze tablets worked for me. So did being on all fours, bum in the air but obviously you can't do that right now.

MonkeysMummy17 · 04/01/2019 09:09

Peppermint tea shifted my pain after csection, I had awful referred pain in my shoulder first time and nothing shifted it. One peppermint tea and it was fine, its what the midwives recommended as well

MonkeysMummy17 · 04/01/2019 09:10

Sorry, just reread your op, if peppermint tea hasn't worked can you try oil or capsules as others have suggested?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/01/2019 09:11

Fennel tea helps, also get down on hands and knees and stick your bum in the air and hold. If you can, that is.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/01/2019 09:15

Oh no, not after c section. No bummin the air.

Buscopan helps with cramps. Ask your midwife.

TheSheepofWallSt · 04/01/2019 09:19

Colpermin is a lifesaver if you have IBS trapped wind - you can buy it in Boots

AlwaysColdHands · 04/01/2019 15:03

Peppermint, peppermint, keep doing little walks. I remember the shoulder pain from this was horrific!
Best wishes to you, it’ll all feel so much better in just a few days x

TinselandToblerones · 04/01/2019 15:05

They gave me peppermint oil post c section.

Sakura03 · 05/01/2019 21:36

I stayed in hospital for 4 days post c-sec for various reasons and was given peppermint oil. I wish I had had some to take at home as I suffered for quite a while.

Taddda · 06/01/2019 10:16

3 weeks post Emcs and still suffering with trapped wind and constipation! The 'all fours' and changing positions does seem to help - although am still on painkillers and low iron (I had 3 iron transfusions in hospital so that doesn't help either) -

Doc assures it will get better as everything still settling into its normal place etc - doesn't help right now though does it! Peppermint water worked a bit??

Shakeit · 06/01/2019 10:20

How do you take peppermint oil?
Is it diluted with water?
I wonder if peppermint cordial would do the same.
(Taking notes for upcoming c section).

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 06/01/2019 10:27

I have had this after each of my four sections and it is so painful and uncomfortable but once you do pass wind you'll feel so much better.
For me I found eating as normal helped me pass wind, but if you can't, stick to the peppermint tea or any hot drink.
After my last c section, I used to lay down on my front with my bum in the air and get my husband to briskly rub my back. It sounds so funny but it really did help so much and once that first bit has gone, you should be on your way to passing wind as normal.
