After dd was born i bleed heavish for 8 weeks - i didn't use materniy pads as i felt they were unrealiable so i used always ultra -having spoke to a friend today she said the reason i bled so long was beacuse i used always and not proper maternity pads.
She said that the maternity pad have a healing property in them

is this true???

I doubt it but am ready to be corrected!!!!!!!!!!!!

joanneg · 02/09/2004 15:31

fairydust - I used proper maternity pads and I bled for about 8 weeks too! So I am not sure they make a bit of difference.

Pook · 02/09/2004 18:08

nothing magical in maternity pads. Couldn't get on with them myself - far too bulky!

lou33 · 02/09/2004 18:24

No

Load of rubbish. They're just big fat badly designed pads. I used always and bleeding has almost stopped after 4 weeks.

prettycandles · 02/09/2004 20:19

Nonsense, they're just old-fashioned pads. I did try Always, which was what I used to use pre-babies, but went straight back to the maternity pads because their one advantage is that they are soft. Always were far too rough for my poor 'bits', and I've never been able to use them since (don't have to now anyway - I've got a Mooncup. Hooray! ).

I always thought maternity pads were considered better as they dont have plastic backing unlike always and so are more breathable and allow faster healing. But err nothing embedded in them.

mears · 03/09/2004 10:56

Rubbish

kbaby · 03/09/2004 21:40

I found maternity pads better as they werent plastic backed as so helped me feel dryer. I found always made me feel damp all the time.

sportyspice · 03/09/2004 21:48

Never heard of this although i have heard of sprinkling witch hazel on maternity pads to aid healing and to soothe.

pupuce · 03/09/2004 22:12

Totally agree with Kbaby

cas73 · 03/09/2004 22:22

No, not true. I used always after dd1 for a while, but they were a pain cause the plastic backing uesd to "stick" on my episiotomy (too much info...)so went back to mat pads which were much softer. After dd2 I used some other pads (don't remember which brand ) from the supermarket that had cotton backing as opposed to plastic, and worked fine!

thanks for that all - i can now prove her wornd with the evidence of mumsnet.
